Do you have to hate gays to be Republican?

Or do you just have to be for changing the constituion to ban gay marriage?

For me it's hard to believe current presidential candidates support changing the charter of our country to prevent something that doesn't hurt anyone.

I support a lot of republican values - low taxes, a strong military, etc.

Buy in 50 years this gay thing is going to cause history to make them look incredibly ignorant.

You are entitled to your opinion. Mine is that this qualifies as a troll thread. If you have an issue you would like to discuss, this isn't the way to approach it.

There's a group of Gay Republicans, "The Log Cabin" Republicans. No you don't have to be any of those things to be Republican. Republican core values are all you have to care about.

This administration is a horrible example of Republican values by the way.

Fiscal Responsibility
Moral Values
Reduction of Government
Reduction of taxation
Free Markets
Capitalists
Humble Foreign Policy
(Sound Money) Used to be in the creed as well.

Loki you're a Log Cabiner! Wow! Most Log Cabin's like Rudy around here, who's your boy? I'd have to assume you aren't a big fan of Mitt or Huckabee.

john mccain is a sexy beast 😛 I'm voting for him in the primaries on super tuesday, but I'll probably vote for Hillbama in the general election because of the whole gays in the military issue, one of the rare things that a president actually *can* change.

Loki that's fascinating. Does it not bother you that such a large percentage of the group considers your lifestyle amoral?

I guess you may look at it like my mother looks at the Catholic church - she supports equal rights for gay people but she's not leaving the church because they don't agree.

I'm not sure if I should this thread seriously, but I'll answer anyway. With how diverse either the parties are in America, it really depends on the candidate and the amount you value their stance on other issues.

Greed and mean-spirited stupidity.

Please do not take this as a troll thread and do take it seriously.

Think about it: The majority of people in one of America's dominant political parties consider a massive group of everyday people to be amoral or sinners.

If this were fringe politics I could care less, but this includes presidential candidates who are mainstream enough to have won state nominations.

Most of my beliefs align with the republican party. If disagreed on any other issue then fine. But this is about fundamental equal treatment of human beings.

Is that not a serious enough issue for a thread?

Did you know that you can be what we like to call a "fiscally conservative" republican? Like, pro-business, less regulation and either pay lip-service to those stupid issues or just completely ignore them...

You realize that Bill Clinton could have changed it and didn't. Hillaby or Obama may not either.

You'll probably end up with some new half assed compromise like its okay to be gay and say it in the military jobs like medics, translators and other not front lines but combat units will stay don't ask don't tell.

Yes, Republicans like to take away the rights of certain groups of people, homosexuals, African Americans, Mexicans. The Democrats however are not like this. They enjoy taking away the rights of all Americans, regardless of race, religion, or sexual preference.

aren't you worried that Obama might accidentally set of world war 3? 😛 he seems so clueless re: foeign policy. I'd feel safer if mccain won, than Obama.

it was a different time back then... Hillary and Obama are both on the record as saying that they'd work to put an end to don't ask, don't tell.

honestly, if it came down to Obama v McCain, it might just boil down to their running mates, since whoever the VP is would be the presumtive nominee once the president's terms are done. but in NJ, I'm really just going to vote for local stuff.

Nah, I think don't ask don't tell will be gone very very soon. The entire culture of the military is different now, and anyone here who has been in the military probably knows at least a few people who were gay in their unit. Everyone knows about it, nobody cares.

Well, i'm a Brit so this is just from the impression i got from this Republican Administration but if you hate truth, honesty, gays, independence, right to privacy, justice, peace, small government, responsible economics and science, then you should love this version of Republicans.

And if you'll vote for McCain, remember that he has supported all of it, so bad that he even gave up his own good name as a trustworthy man to support it.

Bill could have done more good than he already did if the Republicans wasn't out on a witch hunt because of his private matters and it's not strange either, to Republicans it seems that it's more important what the elected officials do privatly than what they actually do for the country.

Again, it's just an observation from an outsider looking in and it's NOT unique to the US, it's the same over here (mostly old ladies over here though and they'd vote for monarchy if they could) and it's the same in France (right now very much so).

I'm a republican and I dont hate gays so the answer is no.

I don't believe they should be allowed to marry though. Civil unions are fine with me.

Ah, so you don't believe in that whole equality thing? Does that go for whites and blacks too or are you just fine with discrimination based on sexual preference?

He doesn't hate gay people, he just thinks they should be discriminated against! Why so picky!?
