Do you have this bad habit too?

Do you pick up magazines or newspapers in which you have absolutely no intention of paying for to read while waiting at the checkout line at the grocery (or other) stores?

1.) Checkout line was unusually long today at Giant. I picked up Time magazine and started reading it.
When it got to my turn, I put the magazine back on the rack and started putting my things on the conveyor belt.

2.) Also, anytime my aunt that comes from abroad wants to go to the mall and wants me to come along, I just go to a bookstore in the mall to pick a book and start reading there. When she calls my cell that she's ready, I put the book back and walk out of the store. 100% of cases I never even return to continue reading the same book.
And yes I had no intention of paying for them.

Just something to kill time basically...

Nope.

At the grocery store I busy my self with giving the evil eye to people who I think are taking too much time with their transaction. I also secretly judge people by the contents of their cart.

Yes I do this all the time, and don't think it's wrong so have no guilt. Alright, the bookstore one MAY be pushing it a bit... but in the grocery store you're just waiting your turn so why not? All the reading material is right there, so go for it.

If i do have to stand in line at the grocery store (self checkout for the win, and if there is a line there, i'm paying attention to who finishes first so i can grab that kiosk), i stare blankly ahead...and wait.

I usually just read the covers of the tabloids/mags that are in the rack, I usually don't pick them up and read them though.

What about the grocery store scenario?

If my aunt comes from abroad for holidays and wants to go shopping I end up being the one having to take her.
I have no choice.
Walk, walk, walk for 4 hours around the mall only to end up buying 1 pair of shoes or clothes.

My mom knows better than that.

How far are you from the mall? I'd drive her there, drop her off, go home and have her call me when she's done.

Depends on the mall she wants.
There's one 10mins drive from house, another 30mins drive.

She's not here now, but she came during Christmas break and I had to take her shopping.
She only visits here once every year or two so I won't see her in a while again, thankfully.

I guess I'm in the minority.
I expected more people here to be picking the mags of the rack and reading them like me.

I wonder why they don't bother using(or keeping) sealed plastic wraps on their mags like some on those gaming and computer hardware mags I see whenever I visit 7-Eleven.

A lot of those mags come with "bonuses" like CD's and shit...that's why most of them are wrapped.

People just rip them open and create a mess.

Are you allowed to take magazines out of their plastic wrapping in the magazine section at the store?

I would think no.

I don't bother with the ones that are shrink wrapped.
I wouldn't want someone to tell me that I have to pay $6 for a stupid mag because I opened or tore the plastic.
