I just accidently connected to a network that isn't mine, don't know where its coming from, but the speed wasn't great. Times like that make me wish I was better at networking stuff so I could take advantage of it somehow.

My entire town is one giant unprotected wireless network, makes it handy when you have the laptop in the car with you and you want to pop on the net.

Is it possible to have an 'unprotected' network so you could mess with wardrivers? Kind of like a honeypot?

All of them have unprotected networks, too bad they all suck at slow speeds although it's really sad when their wireless signal takes over my own one in the house.

I was gonna leave mine open just to see if anyone would use it but decided I'd never be bothered to check the log. I don't even have any wireless devices; it was just the cheapest router I could find! $17 thanks to Fry's:)

A friend of mine has 2 show up for him. He showed me, I suggested telling his neighbours, but don't know if he did.

my solution...turning down the power on my router so that I can't get a signal outside...looked around with my PPC...dead outside...

Yes, especially at my office. They have their whole network unprotected, and someone like me can go in and view/delete/modify all their POs and work orders and databases.

thats a good idea.. But why don't you just use WEP or WPA feature? OR use mac filtering

While on this topic, does MAC Filtering drop your connection frequently? cuz i've heard it does that but it's never happened on my wireless system..

i used to turn mac filters on, then got lazy and turned it off and only use WEP 128 bit. i should really turn it into WPA but I have a network bridge for my xbox media center which i can't use with WPA... but anyway i dont think it would disconnect you if you turn it on

i can ping one of the default DHCP assigned IPs... im so tempted to go in... man someone please smack me before i turn into a snoop
