we have very few dragon flies in michigan for this time of year. I just found a perfectly preserved dead dragon fly in my car the other day. (forgot to close the moon-roof).

I live in Southern California (Irvine, to be exact), and I see them all the time! :)

They are some of the oldest insects around, meaning they have changed very little over the millenia....

When i worked on a river boat a few summers ago i would see them early in the morning. Towards the end of the summer they started to mate. It was the most wonderful thing i had ever seen in nature. The two dragonflies made a perfect heart when they came together!

there are some here in Seattle, WA, but far more in my home city of Spokane, WA (just west of the idaho border)

Used to be scared of 'em, but, learned they were harmless (well, I've never been bitten by one). Also was nice when I learned that they eat mosquitos. Every once in a while I used to see one pearched on the top of my antennae of my Camaro. Something about that ball shape metal part at the top they liked... maybe it's a dragonfly sex toy? :p
