cage rage = motorist rage against bicyclist

I am probably going to start bicycling to work soon to save about $3 a day on gas and our work gives us $4 cafeteria credit per day we bike and we also get entered into drawings to win some pretty valuable prizes like $500 gift cards. I also need to get in shape.

So basically I do want to not upset cage ragers.

My plan to do this is

1) follow the rules of traffic.

2) use designated bike lanes and bike paths

So cage ragers, what do bicyclists do that set you off?

A lot of times here I see cyclists intentionally taking up the entire lane on a one lane street and a huge line of cars behind them. I guess the cyclist does it because he feels it is too narrow for cars to pass him safely, so he decides to just completely block the cars. I don't really know what the best option would be, but I know it pisses a lot of people off.

To the above posters, do your areas have designated bike lanes on the roads?

I voted never, but just today I encountered two idiots riding on the wrong side of a narrow street, one with another idiot on his handlebars.

These weren't bicyclists, they were people on bicycles.

1) no follow the rules of traffic.

2) ride extremely slow(compared to a car) on small streets where the car cannot easily pass. but i guess that one they really cant help.

I admit it can be annoying when bicyclists ride side by side in the bike lane so I go near or past the middle of the lane to make sure I give them enough room.

Sometimes. But sometimes it doesn't matter. I guess some people just insist that they're able to keep up with traffic on 55mph highways....despite the fact that there's a designated bike lane/trail/thing 20 feet to the side of the road.

only when they are serving back and forth in the road. Other then that, no.

At first I thought you meant motorcyclists. They can anger me at times as well when they pass in between me and another car going a large amount over the speed limit.

The only thing a biker can do to piss me off is not follow traffic rules.

They are another car/vehicle to me and I act accordingly treating them exactly as I would another vehicle, this means when I pass I move into the other lane and pass when safe.

And they should stop at stop signs. This is a problem where I work.

I saw one get pulled over once. By a motorbike cop!!! lol

Don't weave through even stopped traffic. I almost hit a biker in Manhattan when he came right out of nowhere behind a taxi as I was coming toward a red light.

Bikes don't bother me as long as they pay attention and know when to get out of the way. The bastards that need to die are the guys driving these little electric shitcans that look like golf carts in a 35 zone when the pile can barely manage 25.

They piss me off when they're holding up traffic. My view is, they do NOT have the same rights to the road as I in my car do.

I have to have a driver's license, insurance, pay yearly taxes on my vehicle, the fuel for it, license tag, inspection, etc, to be able to drive it.

And any asshole of any age can buy a bike and have the same rights to the road as me? I think not. Then you come to a stop, and the bikes keep going.

As long as they get out of my way and obey the laws, no issues with me.

I swear to god I am so close to running over a group of cyclists in my neighborhood. Every Wensday I have to be at work really early for progress meetings we hold for our client at like 8am. There is this group of cyclists probably 10 of them and they just ride around on the road like they are a car and sit on the lights and shit and don't make room for people to get over. I've come so close to just tapping one of those assholes tires.

All the other people that ride on the road I have no problems with. It seems to be when they start to get in numbers that they can get away with more shit.

One of these days I probably will tap one of them if it is a rainy morning at this rate......I know, I'm an ass

I do that on small streets (max 30/40 Kmh) sometimes with my bike, and cagers still pull past me into the left turn lane to go right or blow by me. I'm so sorry that someone parked in the bike "lane", sorry for not wanting to surprise you or make love with the parked vehicle. When I do this, I always move right in the intersection so cars can pass.

I prefer bikes take the lane than stick to the non-existant edge of the road. Then I have to slowly drive by and hope I don't tip them over, so we all slow down anyways.

I had a biker do that to me once, I ran him over.

I ride my bike more than I drive, or I usually do anyway. I don't get mad at bicyclists, i.e. those who are riding their bike somewhere. Kids that are just lollygagging around are another story, but there's no reason to get mad at them. I always ride as far over as possible and there's always room for cars to go around.

One time, a house was driving down the road (half a house anyway) and it was taking up half the oncoming lane, the shoulder gravel, and over into the grass. I saw it coming, stopped, and walked down into the ditch for it to pass....

Then again I also do 60 on the freeway and don't see how people can get so mad at others slowing them down on the freeway... do you hate driving that much that you can't wait to get out of your car?

Here's a question for angry drivers: why do you yell at, gesture at, or throw things at cyclists? What are you accomplishing?
