says FBI may charge a small processing fee...but according to the law the fee has to be cheaper than the actual cost to the government, so it cant be too much.

get your fbi file

Hahaha....yeah..... $600 for a regular toliet, $200 for a hammer.... better be careful, or this report might cost you a few bucks! :)

EDIT: Shouldn't this form be FROM the FBI webite...aka site ends in .GOV?????? I wouldn't do it.

hello all, first thing is thanks for all the hot deals i have found since joining here! secondly, this has to things that concern me. the first being posted above about not being a ".gov" site. But the fact that there are 4 or 5 pop ad windows is the main reason i dont trust it. it would be nice to know what the fbi has on record about me, but no from that place.

have a day....

By using that link you are trusting the person on the other end of that site to pass on your information (INCLUDING SSN!), to the real government site.

Yeah, the site sucks. But it's not like it's an online form. It's a form letter you print out, and a list of FBI field office addresses.

The only shady part is that someone might slip a non-FBI PO Box into that list to harvest personal information.

If you ever had an independent political thought in your life you most likely DO have an FBI file. That Hanssen guy who was just given life for being a Soviet double agent and getting a couple of U.S. operatives whacked spent a big part of his career spying on a lot of folks legally exercising their constitutional rights to free speech ("subversives"), including groups ranging from SANE/Freeze antinuclear organizers to seniors' rights advocates & the president of my local city council.

Here's a link to see thousands of publicly accessible FBI files and details on how to order your own from the FBI directly for up to $20.

I got a copy of mine by writing the FBI and requesting it. There was not fee. I did mention that I had the right to one in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act.

I got back 16 pages of which everything was blacked out except my name and former address. I hired a lawyer to make them give it to me and they said it was "Classified." They told him that the blacked out stuff had nothing to do with me. I said "Then what the hell is it doing in my file?" The lawyer told me it would take $10,000.00 to fight them and I would probably lose.

You should all get a copy so you can see if they have been spying on you. It doesn't look good if your prospective employer sees you have a bunch of top secret stuff in your file. Call the FBI and they will tell you where to write for it.

There should be no fee in accordance with the FOIA. The $20 as suggested on the website is for a third-person (media, etc.) to look at an individual's file.

If any of you truly believe that,

A) The FBI is interested enough in you to maintain a file on you

and

B) If they do have a file on you, they'll share it with you,

then please talk to me. I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

Let's assume FBI dosen't have a file on you.
but once you send in the request for it. Then FBI will get a file on you. :)

I saw mine once,in '87'. When I was going to trial. They had stuff on there I had forgotten about. Then I saw it again(sort of, the customs supervisor at MIA said I could not read it) when applying for customs clearance. I was going to get a copy but I didn't feel it was worth the $20 at the time. By the way I think the Freedom of Information Act means they have to supply the info but not neccessarily FREE.

safe to say i think, if you have a SS#, you have an FBI file.
also if you've ever been charged with ANY type of crime, you have an FBI file.

didn't mean for this post to get so many of you all fired up.
it's a simple link to a simple FREE form, to get a copy of your FBI file. I checked about a half dozen of the listed FBI addresses and they are correct, so i feel confident this person's information is legit.
