Do you have a Western Digital 20GB Caviar?

I recently installed a new Western Digital 20GB Caviar 7200 rpm model wd200BB on my friend's system. The drive has an annoying high pitch tone, like when you have your ears tested that pulses. This is a constant sound, the arm movement when getting files is barely audible. Does any one know if this is standard for this drive or did I get a bad one. I've never used WD only IBM 7200rpm and Maxtor5400rpm drives and both don't make this sound. I called WD tech support but he didn't tell me anything except that all drives make some noise. Looking for reviews I only found a 40GB that is suppose to be quite. I need to know whether to exchange this one for another and hope the next one has no whine or return it and get a different brand.

I have two and have to stick my ear up to my case to hear them. Even then, they are barely audible.

I use a wd200BB hdd to store all my mp3's and downloads on. I can't hear anything from the drive. I do have 5 case fans which sounds like a wind tunnel. lol ;) I never seen my cpu temp go over 40c under heavy load yet.

I've got a WD 20Gig in my one system, and a 30Gig in my other, can't say that I've ever had a problem with their noise.

Thank's for the info. Must be this particular drive. Think I'll just exchange it.
