Do you have a preference as to the SIZE of the company you work for?

This was inspired by the "Post pics of your workspace" thread.

Several people let it be known that its "against the rules" to post pics. I absolutely hate being over-regulated, and sometimes I think that the small company I work for (~65 employees) is too big and too regulated.

What's your ideal company size, and for those who like big companies, why? The benefits and security is the only thing I can think of...

you'd have more chances for vertical movements up the company ladder in bigger companies. Of course....this depends on the type of company it is

Last company was 3,500+. Current one is about 150 now (was under 100 when I first started) but is a subsidiary of a Fortune 500 company (20,000+ I think).

There is a BIG jump froom 2000 employees on up. Organizations that hover in the low 2000-4000 range are still enterprise-level but are genreally streamlined; on the other hand, companies that are bigger than that have more overhead - and there is a fundamental difference between working at a company of 2000 or 4000 and 20000 or 40000

I like small companies better. I've worked for Bristol-Myers Squibb, Johnson&Johnson, Siemens, and currently IBM, among others. The small company feel is DEFINITELY much better. You mean more to them, it's more personable, and you're not just a "resource" with a serial number.

People who aren't as smart like big companies because it makes them feel important, which is rather ironic since they're actually less important and more redundant there.

Start at a big company to gain experience, move to smaller ones for more control.

It really doesn't matter to me as long as I have job security, good pay, benefits, and a good vacation plan.

That said, the company I work for has just over 100,000 employees.

I like working in a big company because there is a lot more opportunities to switch around. I started in business and then was in IT then I was back in a different department on the business side and now I am back in IT. It makes it so I don't get bored with my position and I get to keep the benefits of being a long term employee 401K, more vacation time. It also allows me to increase my knowledge base.

I have had 5 different positions in 7 years at the company.

I'd have no problem with the size of the company if it was filled with big boobed, beautiful looking, single females and were all straight, maybe a bit bi curious, and ...

On the contrary, I've found that small companies are much more willing to let you try your hand at different things. At a big company, you're often pigeonholed into the job you currently do. They don't want to take the risk of letting you move around.

Maybe you just got lucky.

I prefer a company that's 500-1000 employees. Currently working at a company with close tot 100 employees. But we are owned by a larger corporation but I don't know if you can count those as employees. Bottom line, give me the eye candy and I won't complain.

No, it's just one of the company's philosophy of hiring from within. I had no technical experience for the job I am currently in. But I knew the business and most of the IT people from a previous position so they let me give it a try. Been 4 months and so far so good.

There is NO eye candy where I work.

There is a TON where I work. It kills me sometimes that I have had a g/f the entire time I have worked here.
