I kept one in for about 2.5 years before finally removing it after getting a cable modem figuring maybe I would need to use it sometime if my cable went out. It's been 5 years now and I still haven't needed it. If I ever need it, I can toss it in quickly, though I doubt I would even bother, instead opting to just wait it out.

I have a serial port that connects to my modem when I need to use it (i.e. on Friday when @Home might go away, or to send the odd fax). Haven't used an internal modem since I upgraded from a 2400 to a 14.4.

I have 2 NIC's and 1 modem installed in my desktop. 1 NIC to the T3 line, the other goes to my laptop. The modem is for summer when I'm home with dial up (*shrug)...but I can't seem to get win2k to recognize my 3com modem

no modem. only one PCI left on my PC and i dont want to give that up to a modem. i have cable at my apartment, cable at home, T3 at my gf's, but no dialup connection. so there is no point in having a modem. in the rare event i do need a modem, my laptop has a builtin one.

Yes, I still use mine for work, and for the fax feature. That may change if @home folds though.:(
