Do you have a home security system?

Get to know the Neighbors? Do them a couple of favors? Neighbor that keeps an eye on your place is probably gonna be better vs a security system...

my next door neighbor was robbed while I was getting ready for work in the morning. In fact, I probably left for work while they were still in the house. It's not like I sit in my house, looking out the window, wondering what's going on next door.

If I had seen something strange when leaving for work, I would have called the cops - but they apparently broke in through a back door.

I sure do.

Dogs are a way better deterrent than alarm systems IMHO. They usually start barking before anyone even touches your door or window and your average thief is going to find another house rather than risk getting bitten.

For my neighbors it would be easy to notice something on me. i live alone so Its not to common to have tons of cars or for anyone to be at the house during the day. both of neighbors know where i work and when im at work so they could tell if something is up at my place.

Biggest problem with me doing that for them....one has a car business so he constantly has cars and trucks coming and going from his property. i'd have no idea if the guy pulling up behind the house is a customer or a burglar (shop is behind the house). My other neighbor...i have no clue whats up with them but it seems like theres constantly cars coming and going (they do have two teenage kids though) but again every time i look over there seems to be a different car/truck so again i'd be useless to know if it was a buglar or not.

of course if i saw someone carrying a tv out i'd question it 🙂

Though I am going ot get a camera setup here sometime soon. i do travel for work so although i have people to check the house it would be nice to be able to look online at my cameras and just verify myself its all good

By the time you see then coming out its too late. Also most don't park in front, they go in and stage everything near the exit. Once happy they call the driver.

Good info. Thinking of setting up a DIY monitor/alert/video system with alerts to my phone for my house too. Anyone got any reccs?

i don't need security if no one is home
it is just stuff, you can get new stuff
and my neighbors have much better stuff than me, so if someone wanted to take stuff, they'd go to the 1% house before mine

I don't get this post. There is a lot more to losing stuff in a burglary and unless you live a utterly simple life, good luck figuring out everything missing.

No there isn't. All that happens in a burglary is you lose stuff (when no one is home)

Glad you added that last bit, I think we might be rubbing off on you😉

However some people might lose "stuff" that is not replaceable...family heirlooms, etc so having video may help to locate them fast enough to get things back...I don't really get what he's saying either unless he's just saying you could be missing things you don't notice for a while or something...

Yeah I was confused about that swell. Of course there are irreplaceable items in our lives, for that stuff you should just get a safe or similar, everything else is just stuff.

I'm thinking about setting up ZoneMinder anyone used / liked / disliked it?
