Let me know what you come across. I am very interested in this as well.

I used to be into telescopes and I'm trying to get back in. In a couple months I'm hoping to buy one.

My suggestion: if you are okay with something bulky and heavy, an 8" Dob reflector is absolutely the best you can get for the money. Under $400 for a new one, and it gives you an 8" aperture (more aperture = more light gathering power = THE most important aspect of any telescope).

Relevant links:

telescope.com - Orion telescopes (pretty good deals on new scopes for beginners)
astromart.com - Classified ads for used telescopes and also forums for advice
cloudynights.com - Telescope reviews, articles, and more forums

I used to own an 8" Dob that I bought from Orion but the bulk made me think twice about using it some nights. It weighed about 50 lbs. I'm debating whether I want to get a new one and just put up with it, or if I want to get something smaller, lighter, and easier to transport (at the cost of aperture).

Want an expensive hobby? One that combines two of my favourite subjects? Photography and Astronomy. Astrophotography of course! Now there is an expensive hobby!!

Cycling, running, electronics, reading

I don't think computer games count as a hobby; it seems like hobbies have to be somewhat productive or educational...

Hobbies are expensive. Used to be audio, but I don't have one right now 'cause I'm saving money.

Yes I do, mostly programming and maintaining a few sites such as iceteks.com anythingforums.com and my currently most dedicated project uovalor.com (not the site, but the game server itself). Also have random small/less touched projects such as a forum system called SquirrelBBS that I have not touched in YEARS. I really need to finish it one day it was actually quite ahead of it's time but think vbulletin pretty much surpassed it now. :p

I also want to get into more serious DIY stuff, and woodworking. The only DIY stuff I do is electrical. The downside of getting into these things is people asking for help, the upside is being able to charge half of what contractors charge and still make a killing.

Tennis, chess, TV & video games (RPGs) currently.

Which RPGs?

old ones mainly. I just beat Valkyrie Profile (PS1) and moved on to Final Fantasy X.

My rule is basically it's gotta be cheap (free is better) or I have to be able to trade for it. Suikoden (PS1) = new PS2 + FFX for me =)

Before that was NWN 2 and prior to that Morrowind.

Edit: Oh yes I read a lot too. I just finished The Big U by Stephenson and it gets a solid B-. This was clearly an early effort before his writing style solidified. I'm going to suck it up and finish the SoT series next (1 book sitting there all alone on my shelf for 7 months now).

Destroying planets
Time warps (been to busy for much of that lately)
Eliminating sun spots (that's been going well lately)
Rigging the Iranian election. (A no-brainer)
Modding (electrically) Fleshlight machines into nut roasters.
And, Oh yeah, post whoring.

I like to collect foreign currency of places I've been. 2-3 of the smaller bills from each place usually. Sometimes I come across notes that are no longer in print, those are especially nice.

Check out NightWatch

this one was recommended to me when I started. also check out the Cloudy Nights forum. Lots of very helpful people there. Haven't been there in a long time as I've kind of lost interest though.

LOL, same here.

Most notable for me was learning to play guitar. I bought 2 guitars, and amp, and all the accessories. That lasted a few months of just goofing off and then I sold most of my stuff. Friend bought both guitars and accessories. Still have the amp though.

2nd is probably astronomy. Bought a crappy telescope on ebay and wanted something better. then bought a intelliscope xt8 and a bunch of accessories. haven't touched it in like 2 years.

My dad and my sister travel a lot for their jobs. They always ask me what I want from their trips. I always reply just some bills and coins from the country.

From my trip to Europe I remember thinking how cool it was having 50k lira bills and then realizing that it is only $35. I still have around 50,000 lira in bills and coins from that trip.

Can anyone find a link to that Calvin and Hobbes where he says "being bored IS my hobby"?
I dug around on google and found every cartoon except the one I want.
