Do you have a favorite keychain device?

Hey guys,

Wasn't sure where to put this one, but figured that "Mobile Devices & Gadgets" was pretty close.

So I almost lost my 4GB USB drive that had a bunch of my important data on it today. It was such a scare that I'm thinking about investing in a good keychain and flash drive so I will have it on my person at all times.

Which got me thinking: do you have a particular device or item on your keychain that is invaluable? Is there a type of keychain that works for you? What do you have on your keychain?

Looking for any and all answers. 😀 Thanks.

I have 16GB Lexar Jump Drives on both of my car keyrings. Istarted out with 4GB, then 8GB and now 16GB. This is over a period of 3-4 years. I like the Jump drives because the keeper stays on the keyring.

 Good look for Jump drives. Thx 😀

I used to have two 4gb crucial flash drives, those really thin small ones, lost all the data due to my keys damaging it. I swore off putting any critical data on flash drives as I lost some good stuff.

i had a dart shark for a long time on my keyring, it has a bottle opener on it as well. it broke about 15 years ago, but i still have the piece that stayed on there lol.

only thing i have on my keyring is keys, my thumb drive is in my laptop case which is with me at all times. im 24/7 emergency service, so i take my fear with me pretty much everywhere. i also make sure i dump the drive to my server everyday, since ive had thumb drives destroyed on job sites and such. my last one was rugged, water proof and everything, but the one thing that took it down was the keyring holder broke and it disappeared in a waste water plant. that was on a lanyard around my neck tho, not on my keys.

Does this count?

I also have my truck's key and unlocker fob, a shotgun, retractable chain clip, bottle opener, those keychain tags from Autozone/Pepboys, paper towel dispenser key (last job never asked for it back), truck toolbox key, Ruger gun lock key and house key.

BTW, I think this would be better placed in OT.

I got my car key, car remote, and house key, and a small Korean mask. That's it.

My vote will be for my car key. I can't go vroom-vroom without that. At least I can sneak in my house through the doggy door if I don't have my house key.

Which just drives home the point how incompetent they are.

No argument there.

But my goal isn't to try to sneak a mini weapon on the plane. My goal is not to lose a bunch of super useful mini-tools because I'm an idiot and I consistently forget to take it off the keychain at home before I leave for the airport. I went through a handful of these just because I forgot all about them. (link to a ~2.5 inch long mini keychain knife).

i had thought about getting that, but i always have an easy to get to knife and it doesnt have pliers or scissors, at least one of which id like to have for work

My favorite thing is this:
http://www.amazon.com/Swiss-Tech-UKCSB-1-Utili-Key-MultiTool/dp/B0001EFSTI

It's got a bottle opener, serrated knife, and philips & flat-head screwdrivers. And, it looks enough like a key that the TSA rarely take it away (I've lost two in ~100 flights).

i got my dad one, then i tried to use it and it was sort of awkward to me.

because i always have a pocket knife anyway, i got this
http://www.amazon.com/Swiss-Tech-MPCSSS-EX-Micro-Plus/dp/B003WWRDDA/ref=pd_sim_auto_10

not bad for cheap, ive been happy enough with it that i keep it on my work keyring.

Supertalent pico
http://www.amazon.com/Super-Talent-Pico-C-STU16GPCS-Silver/dp/B001PPPIYM

Keep private files encrypted. I like FreeOTFE for USB drives, since FreeOTFE Explorer doesn't require admin rights (e.g. work systems).

i run esxi off one of those.

Yeah, I agree. It's not my favorite to use - it's a bit awkward, and the knife is sharp and to really use it well, you need to wrap your fingers across the blade... which you don't. So yeah, I agree, it's awkward. The advantage is that I fly at least once every couple of months, if not once a month and the TSA won't walk off with it when I forget to take it off my keychain. Yours looks better... but I think the TSA would confiscate it.

But I like having a mini-knife and a mini- screwdriver. Comes in handy all the time. I've even fixed ski bindings with that little guy. So because I can keep it on my keychain without losing it every flight, and it's handy to have a knife, I really like it.

Awesome. Thanks for your recommendation, my goal is also something which I won't lose, isn't bulky on the keychain, and adds utility. This device looks like it fits those criteria. I plan on purchasing one, thanks to you 😀

Some more stuff I found searching around:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-m..._images_2/175-9257396-9474937?ie=UTF8&index=2

SanDisk Cruzer Blade: about 1" long. I saw the 4GB version at Micro Center for 6.99. Which pisses me off, because I paid $8 for a 2GB SanDisk at Walmart. 🙁

http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Classic-Pocket-Microlight-Floatie/dp/B000RK92AW/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sg_7

This set sells something which looks like an LED on a key shape (hard to tell in the pic given), but I couldn't find that particular device by itself - only included in the set. :/

Welp, back to doing some more searching! 🙂
