Do you have a car alarm?

I live in a relatively small town, pop. 50,000 or so. We have pretty much everything a town needs. Two McDonalds, a Burger King, two Taco Bells, two outlet malls, Best Buy, Macy's, restaurants, and what seems like nothing but liquor stores, banks and pawn shops. Just to give you a flavor. But I seldom hear car alarms in this relatively small town. It seems like at least a year has gone by since I have heard one of those loud, annoying car alarms. But now today I have heard two. One at the store and now one around the block. Weird how you don't hear the damn things for so long and all of a sudden you hear two.

I wouldn't have a car alarm myself unless it was a high end car or a Honda. In which case I would use these two combined. LOL

Yes, I have a car alarm, and I use it. Has it kept my car from being stolen? I wouldn't know, but I do know that it's never been stolen.

No, my car is a 2004, I don't keep anything valuable in it, not really a target. Though I sometimes think it would be nice to get a dash cam, and at that point I'd probably want an alarm too as it would become a target, even if it's a cheap one. The damage to the window to get inside would be what cost a lot.

Thieves here are lazy though, they just walk neighborhoods and check all the doors, if they're locked they move on. I forgot to lock my car doors once and got to my car and stuff like loose change and reciepts and other crap got shifted around. I try not to keep too much change in the car but tend to have a few bucks. Coffee money.

Well since you have honest thieves you should leave like a briefcase full of fake 100 dollar bills. I guarantee that will bring some late night news worthy material.

Etch the VIN number into your windows and pros will say forgetaboutit and move on. Chop shops don't want that in their garage at all.

The last time my car was broken into the thieves left crap the stole from another car in mine..they didn't even take the change in my car....i can't remember the last time i have locked my car

I rarely even lock my doors. 99% of nights my unlocked car sits in my unlocked detached garage.

My Subaru has the factory alarm. Doesn't seem susceptible to going off for no reason. It's kind of annoying in that if you lock it with the key fob, the alarm still goes off if you unlock the door with the key instead of the fob.

Not besides the factory alarm that I thought every modern car these days has. I always lock my doors when I leave the car, but I will leave it running at the gas station if I just go in to grab a coffee or something.

I remember in the late-90s (?), they were the shit and every time a loud car rolled down the street, multiple alarms would go off.

yes, i had an alarm with all the bells and whistles including wireless sirens, backup batteries, non-standard install locations, immobilizer, etc.

all that didn't matter when the thieves wanted my stereo equipment - they broke into the car and the siren went off for days. They popped the hood and cut the battery to try to get the siren to stop.

Jacked all my shit anyway cuz I heard the alarm but was too sleepy to respond/didn't realize it was mine, and nobody else showed up either.
