I usually don't have this problem........................when I work on a friend or family members computer, I teach them as I work, so they can understand for themselves

I don't see what you mean by this statement. Where in my post did I make the notion that he isn't my friend?
 
Most of my friends are pretty courteous about asking me for advice and/or help. I'm usually glad to provide it as well. It has come to a head a couple of time where I just had to say I didn't have time or whatnot, they were very understanding.

Think of it as a skill that your friends know like fixing cars, plumbing, helping with your taxes. Use accordingly.
 
I have friends that only im me for help. I usually turn them away. they may think I am a dick, but I don't give a sh!t. I just hate people keeping my sn on their buddy list, so they can im me for help. :|
 
At least your friend is remotely skilled in PCs.
My neighbor asks me for help and he doesn't even know how to drag and drop or copy/paste files!
OK click the icon with the left mouse button, then hold onto the left mouse button and move the mouse to the other folder. Then let go of the left mouse button.

I just tell people that I don't know anything about tech support/hardware issues beacuse I'm a coder.
Works out pretty good overall even though I really -could- fix their problems 😉
 
I don't mind helping...what I do mind is people thinking I can clear up months worth of spyware, adware, etc. by pounding on the keyboard for 30 seconds and saying "enhance"
 
i hate it when people i don't really know treat me like their 24/7 tech support hotline for everything.
I don't mind helping people out, but to treat me like i'm some companies customer service, you just don't have to hold or wait and can talk to someone you 'sorta know', i dont' accept that.

It doesn't much bother me, though probably only because most of my friends can at least compute their way out of a paper bag, and those who don't understand that I'm not their manservant and know to reward my efforts at repairing, upgrading, and maintaining their PCs with ample amounts of tequila 😀
