Do you hate it when people throw away perfectly good food?

Yup, welcome to the USA. We waste food, water, fuel and complain to other countries to save the rainforest because we like the pretty flowers.

It was in college when I realized how much food is wasted. I watched trays return to the kitchen with half eaten meals. At home, my parents saved all leftovers until they were eaten. Leftovers when eating out were boxed up.

When we have buffets at this banquet place I work, I cringe every time the event's over. They throw away TONS of food... we could probably feed over 50 homeless people for a week with the amount of food we throw away...

Then why don't you? I'm sure if you get in touch with your local soup kitchen or charity, that if you gave them schedules I'm sure they would find people that would even come and pick it up for you on location - you wouldn't even have to deliver it to them.

That's the problem, I never know when we're having a buffet until I get there that day, which is already too late.

Fortunately, I've only worked two buffets during my career there.

Well I'm sure that the company knows before the day of where and when it's going. Talk to your boss about it.

i am really guilty of not throwing out food but letting it sit in the fridge and go bad because "i don't feel like it" or I just can't eat it fast enough after opening it.

Good, I am not the only one who feels this way. 🙂

I don't know what you're talking about, I always clean up my plate. And if there are left overs, I eat it the next day. I wish I can find free cookies in my neighbor's garbage bin.

Well you're one of the special ones. Everyone else just throws it away.

So if someone reached into your fridge, took out a carton of good milk and poured it out, you wouldn't care?

I'd care on the premise that is was mine, and I was free to do it. If someone else reaches into their own fridge and pours a perfectly good carton of milk onto their lawn it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Unless I wanted some, then I'd be a little annoyed that they had goen out of their way to be a jerk 😛

But on general principle? No, I couldn't care less.

I don't know....I do hate seeing people waste food, but yeah, if it was yours.

For instance, lets just say you have a roommate. You brought some food home the other night (take-out) but didn't finish it all. He bought some other stuff from the store, but couldn't find room in the fridge, so he threw your food out.

Would you care?

I doubt you'll find too many people to contest this. The way you posed your question initially suggested that you were referring to people taking food with the intent to eat it, and ended up throwing it away due to lack of hunger or maybe because the food tasted bad. I think the latter will get some discussion, but your above example really is pointless. 😛

When I was 7 or so, I couldn't finish my eggs that my grandma had made me for breakfast. She made me sit there until I was finished.

2 hours later... cold eggs FTL. 🙁
