Do you hate it when people say "puter" in place of "computer"?

I've never heard anyone actually say that out loud.

This.
I've seen it spelled as such online a lot, but never verbally.

What irritates me is when a (l)user refer to it as "modem", "brain box", "hard drive", etc.

kind of sad that it took 43 posts before Lord Nikon made an appearance. i thought that he would be plastered all over this topic.

Exactly. Do you say "compooter" or "toon" instead of "tune"? Do you say "poobs" instead of "pubes"?

Interesting. I never realized I'm inconsistent with how I say those words. I say them this way:

Computer = compyuter
tune = toon
pubes = pyubes
tube = toob.
lube = loob
cube = cyube

Even now knowing this, I will continue to say them the same way I always have, because that's how everyone says them around here.

Actually, CPU IS the correct terminology for all the assembled components in a case.
Central Processing Unit, consists of the Processor, Mainboard, Power Supply, Memory, Peripherals, etc., all combined in a case to complete a "Central Processing Unit".

Despite the awesomeness of your avatar, you are wrong.

Wow. That's bizzare. Fair enough, different strokes for different folks. I say "yu" on all of those except for "lube" just because it's quite complex to pronounce it that way.

Not many in the U.S. talk like you do, except for the occasional tools who try to sound British by adopting the atrocious "TORnament", or the equally annoying "an historic".

Excuse me, I need to go and order an ham sandwich.

Couple of questions about your post.

1) How do you pronounce "tournament"
2) What do you call a ham sandwich?

The only people I notice saying "'puter" tend to be women who are not particularly computer literate.

I call it a puter (pronounced poo-ter) when talking to my wife because it sounds a lot like cooter, and she hates that.

What irks me the most is when they call it a "hard drive".

Yeah or "CPU" referring to say, a desktop PC (just the case).
