<< well the reason that people think harry potter is witchcraft is because most christians or catholics, (at least the ones i know) are very closed minded... they don't/can't think for themselves.. that's why, in my opinion, they have to depend on religion.. >>

And then there are the people who think that it's about witchcraft because of all the witches in it;)

The movie was actually entertaining, surprisingly.. I just don't understand the cult following, it's just a story.

Well we are baptist, and the baptist have denounced it. I on the other hand have read the book and see no prob with my kids going and seeing this mov. It the baptist are going to ban this mov and book because of witchcraft they need to ban cinderrella <-sp snow white, ect. They all have evil witches in them. HP is just another FAIRYTAIL about good Vs evil and I see nothing wrong with that kind of story. In my opion its this kind of closed mindedness that drives ppl away from religion. Ppl say we are wrong in believing, but I say if they are right I have still been a better person for it. I have lived a good life, expanded my voc above profanity, and treated everone with the same respect as I would expect. I didnt always go to church and I can notice a diff in my behavior now that I do. I dont believe in everything the church believes in because the church is ran by man. I dont think that 1 beer with my mexican food is going to send me to hell. Anyway ill get off my box. I havent seen the mov yet and hope its good. I know my kids will like it.

I made the mistake of telling my co-worker (devout Southern Baptist) that I'd gone to see it. He asked me, "So did he do any magic or anything?" The only thing I can remember Harry doing in the whole movie was riding the broom. So I told him, "He played field hockey on a flying broom." He seemed surprised, I guess he'd been hearing otherwise.

It was a decent kid's movie, but I don't see what all the fuss is about insofar as protesting it as being Satanic or whatever. Some people have waaaay too much time on their hands.

I neither liked nor dislike Harry Potter or the movie, which, overall, was boring. Perhaps HP2 will be better. Carry on.

Far be it from me to bash another's beliefs, but Harry Potter is just a fantasy story. I can appreciate that some people feel that Witchcraft is inappropriate, but why not be consistent about it? If we want to rid our lives of the evil of witchcraft we need to abolish all of Grimms' fairytales, since they are rife with magical happenings and all manner of the devil's works. Anything Disney is out, even Mickey Mouse since he is a talking animal and the good Lord would never create such an abomination, so we know where he really came from, that's right, just like the snake in the garden the wicked mouse gets his voice from Lucifer himself! And now that that has been brought to light we must conclude that most other cartoons also derive from the devil as well. All this time we thought that they were just light-hearted tales to entertain the young ones, but now we know that it was all a clever device to deliver the children into the dark lord's clutches!....

Or maybe it's just make believe;)

Though I dislike the huge hype(media and merchandise) I absolutely loved the movie.

I had never read the books just pretty much saw all the hype and frenzy, as well as hearing the loud objections of the "magic=satan" organization, so when my hubby took me to the movie I was just plain skeptical--ready to pick it apart from every possible angle.

I found myself so enthralled by the wit, charm and sheer imagination of the story that I walked out completely not understanding what people have been objecting to.

So I decided to read the books to try and find anything that might be construed as encouraging children to do wicca or occult-related activities. I'm through the 3rd book and still can't find anything except a very engaging fantasy story with very likeable characters.

I also don't see why there has to be such a huge hype about the books. They're great stories, that's all.
