Do You Hate Any Movies that Everyone Else Seems to Love?

I hated:

American Beauty
Lost in Translation

Everyone seemed to love those movies... but I found them miserable, uncomfortable and for the life of me I can't figure out WHY I paid money to have a movie make me feel like shite.

All of the James Bond films that I watched were a waste of my vision...

edit: i can not let this thread die without mentioning my HATRED for the Boondock Saints.

Gladiator
The Royal Tennenbaums
The Ring
Any movie by minghella except The Talented Mr. Ripley, which was just ok

It's funny someone mentioned blade runner... i loved the movie and thought the book was awful. I generally find that dick's novels were too cold, though full of great ideas. This novel specifically was by far the worst I've read of his.

I hate Quentin Tarantino movies. OTOH I loved Bio-Dome.

Amen ta that!

I bought and watched Reservoir Dogs recently (DVD). It's the kind of movie you have to watch between the fingers with your hands holding your head (figuratively, of course). It's that starkly horrific. Well, it's well crafted for what that's worth. I personally have no appetite (or necessarily an aversion) for violence in movies, but considering the penchant for violence in American movies (and TV), I really appreciate the stuff that isn't violent at all.

Let's see. I hated Little Shop of Horrors. It's a cult film, I bought it (cheap!), but won't ever watch it again.

Edit: Agreed, I hated Gladiator.

Titanic I LOVED! Yeah, and the second time too.

Pulp Fiction I didn't like when it came out but now I like it OK (saw it once recently). It's kitschy.

Shawshank Redemption was just way too corny and stupid and over-the-top absurd (and that's a big understatement).

I agree, and the DVD I bought of it looked horrible on my front projector (Sanyo PLV-Z2). It was just terribly dark in a lot of scenes. Aside from that, the basic premise was just too stupid and silly. Don't know what all the fuss was about.

I personally think James Bond movies get worse every time.

I agree.

I can watch some of the early ones cause they're kinda funny, but the newer Bond movies bore the hell out of me.

Sean Connery is the trump card. His Bond was bottled in bond. 🙂

I wouldn't bother with the others, but Connery's Bond was tremendous. That's mid-1960's stuff, basically.

Lets try this. What exactly didn't you like about Shawshank redemption? Not enough action? Too much talking?

it was too much of a feel-good movie for me.

plus, in the movie, they implied that he was innocent, where the book made it pretty clear that he was guilty.

This is probably blasphemy on a techie forum, but

I hated -

- All 3 LOTR Movies
- The last 2 Matrix movies
- Episode 1 & 2 of Star Wars

Actually, 90% of the people here would agree with you on points 2 and 3.
Now if you said you hated the first Matrix or Ep 4, 5, 6 of Star Wars, that would definitely be considered blasphemy on a geek forum.

The DVD looked great on my TV. Don't blame the movie for your player/projector/dvd problems. It's a pretty bright movie in general.

As for the rest, to each his own.

I really didn't like Mystic River. Although really good acting, the delivery just wasn't there. Too many slow scenes as well that are completely unneccessary.

Re: Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - Yeah, there might be something I can do to get it to display OK in my home theater. Another guy said it was a crappy release, but he might have been wrong. Maybe if I mess with the gamma enough, I don't know. Anyway, the story dragged really badly a lot of the time. The extended dialog scenes drove me nuts. Toward the end when they went out into the countryside there was some very nice cinematography. Other than that, it was a waste IMO. Sorcery/fight scenes leave me cold, and they wore that out bigtime.

Meet the Parents was just one unending nightmare of a movie.
Starship Troopers - my wife loves it and I just want to yank my hair out everytime she puts the movie in.

Darn it... I'm going to have to watch it now... I got so bored that I turned it off.
Wait.. n/m... I can just google.

Add to my list of hated movies:
Titanic
Bambi (yes, the Disney one)
And, when I started watching Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, I thought I was watching the wrong movie... I thought I was watching a crappy movie with a title similar to the one people were saying was an awesome movie.
