Do you guys think there will be a day when...

We can harness energy from humans? :awe:

No, not like in the Matrix, but more in the form of kinetic and heat? We would create these nano energy generator/collector and embed them into fabrics, and make clothes. Anyone wearing these clothing would generate energy from body movements and heat then can be collected into a battery of sort, then ”upload” to the grid wirelessly. This process should be transparent to the wearers.

Then, we can make a lot of these clothing, and donate them to Africa. For the children, of course. So, according to my rough calculation, we should have lots of energy then. I don't think people in 'Muricah should wear these things, as the return on investment won't be great.

What say you? :awe:

Go on MIT, I dare you. :colbert:

getting energy from humans is incredibly stupid, we'd be further ahead to start building thorium reactors.

How so? There are over 8 billions of these on this planet... :colbert:

Because the humans don't have any energy unless they extract it from the environment in the form of food. You'd be using humans to convert biomass into work and heat.

Because a Big Mac & fries costs more per calorie than petrol. Any energy you take from a person will make them feel cold and tired until they replenish it by eating and resting. Unless you're talking about "extra" energy radiated into the environment as electromagnetic radiation.

But but, they move around. That's why I suggested Africa because they move a lot more down there, and they need clothes. :colbert:

Why do people keep thinking there is magic when it comes to energy.

It HAS to come from SOMETHING. There is NO easy answer or magic when it comes to energy.

There never WILL be.

Meanwhile, best we can do is conserve and use the least energy possible.....and unfortuantely our society/corps do NOT want that.

How about KINETIC ENERGY as stated in the op?? Don't any of you read?

Slap some piezoelectric floor tiles in every mall floor, sidewalk, parking lot, hallway in the world and you'd probably get something useful.

I believe a guy already did this in a Walmart parking lot, but with limited success. On a local scale, it would probably only give you enough energy to power the lights or something small.

And what's this "the Africans" shit? Are you one of those idiots who thinks Africa is a country and everyone looks and works the same way?

Of course we're not gonna wear that stupid thing. Instead of wearing the kinetic energy device myself, as a crafty American, I would strap it to my dog. Then put him on a treadmill so he could create lots of free energy. Which is good because I just expanded my cable TV package. Lots of shows to watch and free dog energy for a bigger flatscreen.

Dog will be busy though so gonna need an extra service animal to fetch the beer. Fortunately the bipedal female is easy to train. I should really marry that woman.

And where do you think the fuel for that kinetic energy comes from? I mean we do have a lot of "charged batteries" in the form of obese people, but I don't think you realize how much energy is produced by even a modest size coal plant. The amount produced by this system, even assuming impossible 100% efficiency would not be worth it.

You mention Africa as a prime production place (for some reason), but did you know that you lose energy when you move it through wires? How is the energy going to get from the production to consumption population centers?

Neat idea, but completely impractical on any kind of large scale.

I don't think this would be successful. Reason: 1. In the wintertime, people wear clothes to keep warm. The goal is to limit as much as possible the energy from the person to the environment. Not to mention, heat engines are quite inefficient for the amount lost. And, humans are often in environments where the air temperature is only 20-30 degrees from their body temperature. That's not a very big temperature difference; there are frequently larger temperature differences between the interior of a building and the exterior of a building; why not build the walls out of a material that would take advantage of the difference in temperature to yield net energy? (Rhetorical question)

However, the idea of embedding things in shoes, to get energy from walking - again though, there's no free lunch. For the sake of simplicity, let's imagine the sole of the shoe as being a spring. When you step down, the spring compresses. When you lift your foot back up, the energy stored in the spring aids the lifting of your foot. If you take that energy from the spring and harvest it via some electromechanical means, you would have to work harder to walk. This, more or less, is the principle behind those stair stepper machines in gyms. You burn as much energy as walking up a flight of stairs, without actually going uphill.

No, no fatties, please. We need people that move around, like a lot.

Judging from some if the replies, it seems that a lot of you lack a sense of humor, thereby also lacking intelligence.

Alright, for shits and giggles, let's say one day when we can perfect wireless energy transfer, and that we can develop these nano kinetic generators, and that we can embed them into fabrics to make clothes, and that the energy would be harnessed from movements by people doing every day stuff, and there would be wireless ”collecting” stations strategically placed so that when a human wearing these things walk by, the energy would be automatically uploaded wirelessly...

You know, it's not that far fetch...

You know what? Some of you Fockers are no fun, like, at all.

I'm lots and lots and lots of fun, but I'm seriously underappreciated around here.
