Do you guys think that this MP3 player is worth the money?

Need a solid-state MP3 player for running. I have been thinking about picking this one up. Seems to get good reviews. You think they will put this one out in retail stores and drop the price soon or should I just get it from the mfgr?

I don't want anything with a drive mechanism that can be screwed up with the jostling and become misaligned.

Also, this can be used to transfer files between PC's and voice record, etc..

It looks like a nice Mp3 player, Can't complain about IRiver and their firmware updates. it has plenty of memory and an FM Tuner to boot. Only thing I don't care much for is you can't upgrade the memory. If you've got the money go for it.

why not get a refurb 5 gig iPod? They can be had for about the same price and are perfect for running.

right now you can get a 20GB iPod for $295 (check Hot Deals) and 20GB Creative Zens aren't too expensive, compared to this $200 mp3 player. the added bonus is that you can carry around a ton of music. i've heard about people putting 60GB HD's in their Zens, so i'm not worried about the HD failing in my Zen

this thing has propietary software that you must use to transfer the files, which I think sucks.

I've heard the Creative MUVO is good, acts as a USB HDD also and will show up as another drive so you can drag and drop files.

The only things are there is no LCD and if you want a certain order of songs, you'll have to do them one by one.

i have iriver's new 128mb version. its nice, i like it. got it at best buy for 139, and for 18 bucks more got a 2 year warranty no question ask at BB.

thing about creative muvo, is that it costs the same as iriver, but iriver has tons more features.

ipod i guess it good, but i hear different stuff that the constant jossling such as jogging with it, is no good for the harddrive.
save money and get the 128mb version, seriously, it transfers 128mb worth like 1.5 minutes. it doesn't plug directly into your usb connection, but its a long wire that connects to your pc, then the wire connects to your iriver, so its not a hassle if you only have rear usb slots. plus, with the ipod you need the carry case, which is gonna cost more again, unless u don't mind wearing a fanny pack. =)

another tip, it plays wma files, but when you rip it make sure that "personal management" is unchecked in windows media player, under tools, options. this takes out the copyright feature. if you dont, it won't play on the player.

it sounds better with the equlizer set at "metal".

I am quoting myself for the benefit of everyone suggesting an iPod. They are NOT suitable for running. Over at iPod lounge there were a lot of reports of premature failures when running with them due to drive mechanism problems. Also the Iriver does all the same stuff as the Muvo, including file transfers (without proprietary software), has twice the memory, and a buttload more features.

From my personal experience + what I've read at various forums
you can't go wrong wih anything made by iRiver.
I have a Slimx 350 for work and an iFP-195T for excercise;
both are excellent producs.

Just make sure you don't pay retail, shop around.

I would love to not pay retail. However, it seems the only place selling it is the iriver website FOR retail.

rio 500 by Diamond. It's an older solid state mp3 player that has 64mb built in and suports an addition 128mb smart media card. I'd recommend picking up this sleek, small player from ebay or such for cheap, and geting a couple smart media cards. @ 96kbps with an external 128mb card, you've got 192mb, which is like 4hrs+ of music

If you can wait a few more months, we should start seeing 512mb-1gb flash based usb compatible mp3 players for under $200 .. I wouldn't be suprised if something like this is already available.

I preordered the 390t but I didnt receive it yet. I think I should get it by tomorrow.

I had the 190t before and it was really awesome. I returned it as soon as I heard about the 390t.

Yah, the 512 model is uber phat. I'm guessing it'll be about $299. A bit pricey for my purposes. 256MB should be more than adequate for any distance I am going to run I don't even get halfway through my 128MB memory stick (Clie) as it is now.
