Do you guys ever get annoyed looking at other people's desktop arrangements?

I look at the desktop threads and sometimes i cant help but think a certain layout is the work of a madman, like a vertical start bar or a quadline start bar or a desktop filled with icons. Obviously it's none of my business and people have their setups for a reason, but i just reflexively (is that a word) get annoyed when i see one.

The thing that annoys me at my office is that some people have these big, beautiful monitors, and have the refresh rate at 60Hz. Everyone I visit gets theirs cranked up to 85 if possible.

Mine's set at 60hz. Just to annoy you. And because it's an LCD.

No, my ego is in check.

It doesn't haven't alot to do with ego... I just see that as my set up and I think how inefficient or wierd it would be for me. I already added the caveat that they have their own setup for a reason and it probably works well for them.

No, doesn't bother me. I like mine clean and simple but others like having everything they can think of available on their desktop. I don't lose any sleep over it.

The refresh issue bothers me a little, especially if the company goes out of their way to buy cheap monitors with crummy refresh rates.
Am also not pleased with all the sorry bastards who keep getting their NEW CRT's replaced by LCD's, while our OLD CRT's sit around, because they were so expensive to aquire. I prefer a good quality CRT for home use. But LCD's are much better for an office setting.

I used to worry about desktop arangements. Color schemes and icon placement and the autohide feature and 100 other things. Then we moved to Win2000 with a private logon for everybody. Now I just worry about myself and ignore the other fools.

Your LCD at 60Hz doesn't annoy me, I know LCDs are meant to be at 60. But few people in this building have LCDs, aside from the laptop users that is.

There's another thing that annoys me, people who want and use laptops that don't need them. They're a pain.

Looking at desktops is like peering into someone's little computer world. I usually see what is running in the tray, what icons if any they have on the desktop, and just anything in general.

*resumes stalker mode*

I hate icons on the desktop. When ever possible I have a completely clear desktop. The only thing I use for icons is the yzdock.

You would eventually adapt.

It mostly doesn't bother me....however

what I DON'T like is when I'm fixing someones' PC and they've got all that crap on their desktop that
they NEVER use.
Like whatever the PC came with.....

especially that dam AOL icon!!!!

yes. Don't people KNOW Recycle Bin belongs in the lower right hand corner all by itsself???

screw that it should be removed from the desktop along with every other icon

at work, i have no icons. i keep my frequent used programs in the Quick Launch bar and use a double height start bar. at home, the only icons i have on my desktop are temporary and gets moved or deleted once i'm finished. if there is something on my desktop, it's like a to-do list. i have to finish whatever that icon is related to before i can delete it.

I hate it when people center their wallpapers even though there isn't any discnerable differences between that and tiled.
