Do you go to the dentist regularly?

I'm asking because I just went for the first time in 9 years. I know, I know, I'm a dumbass. My wife has kept me well aware of that fact.

Despite not having gone in such a long time I only have 2 cavities. The hygenist and dentist were both amazed I wasn't in worse shape than I am.

I also have 2 wisdom teeth that need pulling.

So do you go for you twice yearly checkups?

Once a year per dentist orders. Felt there was no need for me to come every six months.

I didn't go regularly before, but a couple of root canals and some crowns showed me the error of my ways.

The Ren & Stimpy "nerve ending fairy" episode should be required viewing for all kids. That and the Simpsons nuclear plant strike show:

lisa needs braces -- dental plan -- lisa needs braces -- dental plan

You just reminded me of that Ren & Stimpy episode. That was freakin' gross! The doc said if I had waited much longer I probably would've needed a root canal.

After I had to have a tooth pulled because it got so bad, I learned that it is well worth going every six months.

Yep...I go every 4 months to get my teeth cleaned and gums scraped. My insurance covers it. But I think they charge too much. Many retired people have no dental insurance. And can't afford to go..............:(

Every 6 months. Think of it as preventitive maintenance. Better to stay up on it rather than find out you have to get dentures at age 30! ;)

I spent the better part of my childhood at the dentist's office. Had a spare tooth, nifty round thing, that was growing behind my upper row fronts. What should have taken an hour to yank out ended up taking three years, too many dozen visits to count, and then another five years of wearing a retainer to try to straighten out my teeth because the dentist has fiddled around so long and hadn't pulled it right away. When he did get it out he was amazed how small the root was, apparently he never learned how to read X-rays, even though he exposed me to at least 20 during the process.

Even so, I still went in for yearly cleanings afterwards, and then would have sensitive teeth for months afterwards. Gotta love that, go in, they pry and try to chip at your teeth with stainless steel appliances I would be scared to use on my car tires, then you pay them for it.

Got my wisdom teeth drilled/broken/removed by a different doc when I was still in HS. Amazing, he got 4 embedded wisdom teeth out in an hour while it took years for that other jackass to remove one. Went back for one cleaning after that during which they opened up the still healing incisions from the wisdom removal. Haven't been back since, that was maybe ten years ago. No cavities, no sensitive teeth, gums are fine, no tarter that I can see and a lot less aggrivation.

Maybe I'll pay for it someday, but I sure as hell won't be putting up with the sort of 'work slow, bill fast' dentist I had to endure as kid. Folks didn't know any better, they were trying to get me nice teeth. But I have very little respect for the dental industry as a result of going to that dentist.
