Do you give bums money?

I have encountererd some bums, everything from the guys at the freeway crossovers with signs, to the downtown streetbum asking for a handout.Some are obviously f#$ked up- others look like they are just down on their luck. I dont know sometimes I have, sometimes I feel bad for not doing it, sometimes I feel worse for doing it.
 
After living in Chicago for many years, hell no. You develop a thick skin from living in the city, and all sympathy goes away.
 
sometimes, we have "streetwise" over here that the homeless sell and buy thunderbird or whatever. I might pick that up once a month for $1 other than that its a case by case basis, I really dont have money to throw around but sometimes I feel sympethic to my fellow man, hell it could be me out there
 
Sometimes if I see a homeless person diggin in trash cans, I'll wait until I see them find something and then I'll run up and kick it out of their hands and step on it so they can't eat it. And they'll say, "Hey, why you gotta be a dick all the time?" And I tell them, "I'm working for the Starvation Army, Dawg. Peace out."
 
A few years ago I was going into a local burger joint to get something to eat. A bum approached me and asked to give him enough for a meal.

I did a quick calculation and figured I could spare 2 bucks and still get my meal. I gave it to the guy - he looked at me and said, "That's not enough for a combo meal..." I told him to walk across to the grocery store and buy something else. He said, "But I want a burger - give me more." I told him to f-off and got a burger....he was still in the parking lot begging as I showed him the burger I bought. He flipped me off....go figure...

At a gas station I watched a guy go to various people and ask for money. I filled my car and he hit me up. I told him, "No, " paid for my gas and pulled out into the parking lot and watched him. About 15 minutes later he got on his bike, rode to the other end of the parking lot, put the bike into a late model Subaru and drove off.

Needless to say, I rarely give to bums any more. If you're gonna give, give it to a descent charity.

Well this might help, the ones wearing fishnet stalkings who then follow you to a motel room and give you teh sexxors aren't, technically, bums.
 
No, most of the ones in the city were I live, are usually nicely dressed and clean shaven.

Couple of experiences:

I went to an Albertson's once where I lived and while walking to the store, I spotted a bum at the door. He was getting some change from someone. Well, when I walked out, I looked across the parking lot and he was getting into his brand new van.

I also gave some guy a dollar in San Francisco once after he asked for change and he got all up in my face saying that he wanted change. Well, I got back into his face and told him to give me back my money, and he was like, "Ok, ok, calm down". I'm sure there are legitimate people in need of help but the ones I've encountered have not seemed so.

heh...most I'll give a hooker is a cigarette.

Some bums disgust me, others I feel sorry for. Something in the eyes. Anyways, its not as if that dollar will break me.
