Look at your original post. You have listed three occasions where you had to reprimand people you did not even know for behavior that was not really even affecting you.No doubt kids, I doubt you would do it to an adult. You sound whiny to me...so I decided to push your buttons.
First off, you're responding to the wrong person.
Kids walking down the street saying "N" this and "N" that affects me because it isn't acceptable behavior in front of small children. I've had to get on the teen punks in my neighborhood already for smoking and trashing up our gazebos. This isn't anything new between me and some of the teens in my neighborhood.
Skatepunks jumping off a ledge into a children's playground affects me because I don't want to see my child or someone else's child get hurt.
Lastly, I would do it to an adult and have in the past to adults who have sworn out in public in front of my kid for no good reason than to hear their voice. See that guy in the grocery store was an adult.
Some day your children are going to hear dirty words...they'll even say them. What are you going to do then?
Eventually they'll grow up and reality will hit. IMO, the best thing you can do is teach them in a safe environment and make sure they understand what the words mean. I know that I learned about half of the swear words when my father was working wiring under the train table we had. "<thump>Goddamnit!"
And 'the N word' as you so safely put it...words are words. Don't you find it a bit silly that certain words are taboo? I mean, nobody really cares if I say fvck, ass, hell or damn in a casual, non business setting, but say n_gger, and it's worse than if your grandparents walked down the treet waving their penises at people. Is that really progress? Being a racist is different, but we're afraid to say that word even in an academic setting. It's true that there is rarely a time when you could say it and NOT bebeing racist, but it's not fundamentally different from "wop" "beloved patriot" "cracker"..."polack" (I'm running out here)...but these words can be said in jest. Why is that? It seems like we're moving backward, not forward.
Sorry for the long rant, and I hope that noone is so uptight as to be offended. Keep this rational.
