Same thing my parents did to me. Instill in to them the fact that you don't swear out loud in public where everyone can hear you.

And 'the N word' as you so safely put it...words are words. Don't you find it a bit silly that certain words are taboo? I mean, nobody really cares if I say fvck, ass, hell or damn in a casual, non business setting, but say n_gger, and it's worse than if your grandparents walked down the treet waving their penises at people. Is that really progress? Being a racist is different, but we're afraid to say that word even in an academic setting. It's true that there is rarely a time when you could say it and NOT bebeing racist, but it's not fundamentally different from "wop" "beloved patriot" "cracker"..."polack" (I'm running out here)...but these words can be said in jest. Why is that? It seems like we're moving backward, not forward.
Well, the two kids in the street were black and they weren't using it in a joking manner. They were talking about some other kid they knew and using it in a negative manner. I have to refer to Bill Cosby's rant on the use of the "N" word because he said it best.

Sorry for the long rant, and I hope that noone is so uptight as to be offended. Keep this rational.
Not offended.

Good to hear.

Now, it sounds like you're not too far off, but your actions seem unnecessary in actually confronting these kids, but I guess I wasn't there, so I won't pass judgement. But don't think that if your kids go to public school they'll get past 2nd grade without hearing expletives.

It's not simply about HEARING curse words. It is the fear that they will learn and repeat it around others. It's not a good thing when your kid is tossing expletives around other kids ... you're going to be hearing about it from other parents too.

You're just trying to teach your kid right from wrong. It's not solely to preserve your kid from hearing naughty words.

Everyone learns swear words as they get older. The trick as a parent is to make sure your kid learns what is socially acceptable. But I have no problem telling a couple of kids walking up a street swearing and using the N-word with their loudest voices to watch their mouths around the little kids.

whenever one of my nerd brothers says something like:
"The logarithm of the metallicity falls off linearly with distance, with a slope of -0.07 dex per kiloparsec,"
i'm deeply ashamed.

Fine, but it should be an ON TOPIC flamefest, not stupid sh!t like this. The fact that you care about what one person claimed thy would do in a hypothetical situation in a clearly inflmamatory manner on an internet forum is...well...sad. Color yourself retarted if you like, I wont stop you any more.
Are you running for MOD or something? I'm not sure they have an opening for 'Hypocritcal Mod.'

TOTALLY OFF TOPIC, DON'T SHOOT ME SO

Is you name in reference to the dark tower books?

Long days and pleasant nights to you.

/ka

May it do ya fine!

Pass the muffin balls.

About the name...no,in fact, I have no clue what you're talking about.

After 10K+ posts, you'd think you'd get the hang of quoting down eventually. ;)

The name question was directed toward me, not you.
