Do you get points on ur license if you wer ein another state n got a ticket?

I was very stupid yesterday on the way home from virginia, and I got a ticket doing 94 in a 65 but I know I was speeding but I was only doing about 89-90 I know It was a very stupid thing to do...probably wont speed that fast ever again. But Does anyone know in Pennsylvannia if you get points for a ticket that wasnt in the state. I would greatly appreciate the informations. I got caught in Maryland...pretty bad because I just entered the highway from a rest area and was trying to catch up to a buddy of mine 🙁 Oh well to bad Ill deal with it just wondering if I will get points or not.
 
Typically I haven't in the past, but that was several years ago. Technology is changing everything and I'm pretty sure in this day and age DMV's are able to easily track your activites across state lines where this process used to be much more difficult.

I guess you'll just have to wait it out and see.
 
depends on the state...

I think pa, oh & wv have agreements to assess points for violations in each other states...
not sure if that agreement is in effect in maryland & virginia...
I know PA & NJ && PA & NY do not have an agreements... still checking...

what more important though is if ticket gets sent to insurance... whether you get points or not... policy go up.

I apologize, as I was having a "duh" moment this morning...

I work at the PENNDOT DISTRICT 12 ENGINEERING, regional facility in Uniontown, Fayette County. I just walked upstairs and asked our traffic saftey officer.
He is making a few phone calls, and I will reply as soon as I have an answer.

the two states you mentioned, i dont know, but the answer you seek should be in the Penn DMV website. Keep in mind however it might be outdated.

For example, NY and NJ, if you are from NY and speed in NJ and were caught, NJ will report it to the NY DMV. However, despite the fact that they report it, sometimes points add up, sometimes they dont. So there's no solid answer. HOWEVER, in the NY DMV site, it does say any points obtained from out of state except from some province in Canada will not add points.

So take what you read on the PENN DMV site with a grain of salt and wait it out, because there's no solid answer usually.

Possibly, if they share the information between the two states. You should get your license suspended for pulling a stupid stunt like that.

As stated clearly in the Code of Virginia, the penalty parameters for reckless driving is up to one year in jail, and/or up to $2,500 in fines. Reckless driving also carries the possibility of a suspension of driving privileges for up to 6 months."

§ 46.2-862. Exceeding speed limit - A person shall be guilty of reckless driving who drives a motor vehicle on the highways in the Commonwealth (i) at a speed of twenty miles per hour or more in excess of the applicable maximum speed limit where the applicable speed limit is thirty miles per hour or less, (ii) at a speed of sixty miles per hour or more where the applicable maximum speed limit is thirty-five miles per hour, (iii) at a speed of twenty miles per hour or more in excess of the applicable maximum speed limits where the applicable maximum speed limit is forty miles per hour or more, or (iv) in excess of eighty miles per hour regardless of the applicable maximum speed limit).

 
Between Californa and Utah - yes, also between Kansas and California.

Those are the only two states I've tested it in, but the California DMV was fully aware of my out-of-state tickets.
 
Interesting that your ticket was for 29 over. Wonder if you actually got nailed going 30+ and the cop decided to take it easy on you because over 30+ would require him/her to take you to jail on the spot?

I hope it's true... and I hope Oregon adopts the same law. I almost died this morning with some young punk RACING down the highway and dodging in and out of traffic, including the emergency lane while some stupid m*****n pulled out into traffic right in front of me while I was swerving to miss the guy racing up from behind me.

never speed alone. i always follow some crazy speeding cars so if pulled over at least i can use that "going with the flow" defense

and AFAIK cops will only pull 1-2 offenders at a time for their own safety. so i always let 2+ speeding cars pass me then follow them 😛

otherwise i only go above a maximum of 15mph above the posted limit
 
It's a pretty sad state of affairs on ATOT when you have to seem so apologetic and regretful in order to keep the flamers from railing on you.
 
christ! people, there are freeways in the bay area where 90+ is the flow of traffic in the fast lane. it's not like he dropped an atom bomb on an orphanage. and if he was pulling out of a rest area, it sounds like he was out on a big interstate.

that said, 90 MPH when you just got your license = not so smart. the fact that you let yourself get caught means you probably weren't paying close enough attention.

Well, what would you expect? If you do something really stupid, dangerous, and irresponsible and decide to let the whole world know about it, you should expect people to judge you on it. It's not like we're his best friends or his family, we aren't obligated to pat him on the head and tell him "we know you're a good boy."

I have seen a cop pull over 6 cars at once
 
i really didnt read that he was a new driver. deserves suspension if you ask me. live and learn.

you never really "be one with the car' unless you drive 7 days a week for a year. foir an unexperienced driver to go 90mph, well let me say congratulations that you're still alive to post here. im not saying people with experience can speed, but anything over 60mph you cant control your car or stop in time if anything happens out of the ordinary. if you only been driving for a week, you cannot react quick enough for the unexpected.
