Do you get pissed at drivers that don't make their right turn on a red...

i think only LA is taking out the cameras. I know San diego, they're keeping the cameras.

The story was on the news, last week or the week before. They talked about how the collection rate on the fines was at 60%. I thought everyone was getting rid of them, granted I didn't pay a lot of attention to the entire story. I never got one but if I did, I would of thrown it away. You never sign anything agreeing to appear in court or take care of the citation.

Depends on the state. Some places, it's illegal to do so...but otherwise, yes. GTF out of the way.

What state? I should be careful when I travel!

I thought it's always allowed, except where a sign indicates "No turn on red."

I do think you're supposed to stop completely before turning.

According to everything I've ever heard (and the bit of research I just did) it is legal in all 50 states unless prohibited WITH a sign. So if there isn't a sign, it is legal.

Here in California if a light has a red arrow it doesn't mater if there is a sign or not, it is prohibited to turn on a red arrow. There are streets here with red right turn arrows and no sign. Turn at these light on red and it is over a $400 ticket.

What bothers me more is the raging impatient asshats who will lay on the horn if you don't turn immediately on the red. This happened to me a few months ago... I didn't turn fast enough for his liking so he honks his horn. Well, after that I decide to just chill and wait for the green, just to piss him off. He went into rage mode, throwing up his arms, speeding past me in a huff after we both turned.

Sounds like the OP might be this type of person. News flash, I don't have to turn right on red if I don't want to. It's optional. Get over it, you're not so important that you can't wait an extra 30 seconds.

There have been a couple of times in my life when I've not turned at a red light because I didn't think I could make the turn without going too wide and crossing into the second lane.

The only thing more annoying than not taking a turn on a red is straddling the turn and straight lanes.

Offhand, it is illegal in NYC. Possibly the whole state, I don't know.

Just the city. Legal in the rest of NY state.

You may make a right turn at a steady red light after coming to a full stop and yielding the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and pedestrians.

Also, turning on a red light is not allowed in New York City unless a sign is posted permitting it.

Thank you Captain Obvious. That's exactly what an arrow means, the turn is controlled by the arrow. So a red arrow means no turning allowed.

Duh!

The only time it gets to me is when I'm behind someone sitting at a red, waiting to turn right, and there's absolutely no other traffic moving anywhere...esp. early mornings. So there we sit, waiting for the light to change.....and no other traffic.

Much worse than someone not turning right on red is someone pulling out in front of you on a highway and then creeping along, taking a mile to get back up to the highway speed I was traveling, esp. if there is no one behind me. Idiots can't wait 5 seconds for me to pass by them before pulling out and driving like they're afraid accelerating will blow up their car.....instead poke along at 45mph, which they finally get up to after a half mile.

And of course, there's enough oncoming traffic preventing you from passing them.

Damn Asian drivers, had a small accident with one last year because she stupidly stopped her car without moving and I backed into the rear end of it. If you're on the road, always look behind you when reversing to avoid an accident with an idiot Asian woman that will blame you.

I stop at all red lights and stay there.

It's not worth a bogus ticket.

Here in Chicago they send tickets for what should be perfectly legal rights on red after you have stopped for revenue.

The guys here at the office were getting so many tickets from a corner near the office here that no one takes that road now.

She stopped on her side of the road, double parked. I had to pay for the cost because they blamed me because I was the moving car although no one is supposed to double park or stop on their side of the road because it causes accidents and holds up traffic. Actually i'm glad it's been paid and over and done with. I didn't have insurance at the time although I get insurance without fail these days. To be honest I didn't even pay for her repairs. My folks are rich and paid the repair cost.

So you are mad at another driver for her stupidity, yet you freely admit to driving with no insurance on your accord? Which is even more ironic since you say you gladly let your rich parents pay for the accident, but they couldn't help you out and buy you insurance? LOL

I have to say I found the whole turn on red thing complex in America, at first I didn't know it existed so people behind me were getting pissed off, then when I did know it existed I found out that it depended what state I was in etc! So disjointed I'm not sure how people drive around the country when the road rules aren't national... Even the speed limits seem to change...

Congrats

You figured out that the rules change depending on how aggressive the area is on depending on ticketing drivers for revenue.

Yeah it's bizarre, I mean sure you need to make some
Places slower than other places but when it comes to the standard speed limit you can go on dual carriageways it makes no sense to have different rules for different states unless there are signs up everywhere saying so.

In the UK we have two national speed limits, 70MPH on dual carriageways and 60MPH every where else, it works well...

Only upsets me when there is very little traffic.

Actually, I do rage when the turd speeds up to get in front of me and then just sits at the light not turning on red or going straight.

It may be legal in all 50 states, but it's not required. So no, I don't get pissed because that's pretty fucking stupid.

The only times I can think of that I didn't turn right on red when given the option was when I didn't do it fast enough for the self entitled cocksmoke behind me and he started blaring his horn at me and waving his hands all about. That's when the turn signal goes off and we just wait for the green light.

Speaking of that, I hate people who honk right when the light turns green because they expect you to floor it. I always wait a second before taking off because I dont want to die to some idiot who decides to run the red light.

Very much this. Saw a car beside me get broadsided last summer because someone ran the red light. Car beside me got the left turn arrow, pulled out a little bit, then SMASH! The person who ran the light not only ended up taking a LOT longer to get to their destination (if at all), but probably also got a nice hike in insurance premiums and a fistful of hospital bills too. It's just not worth it IMO.
