Do you follow hockey?

Since today is the first day of the Stanley Cup championship I thought this would be an appropriate question to ask ATOT: Do you follow hockey?

I was talking to my friend from Michigan, and apparently hockey is a big deal up there. This seemed strange to me, because in all my travels I have never really seen a city/state care at all about it's hockey team. Here in Columbus with the Bluejackets it was just a passing fad for about a week or so. My friend seems to insist that hockey is THE sport. Personally, I think hockey is big in Detroit because they can't win at anything else 😛

I'm fairly sure hockey exists just so that Canadians can have their own little sport, seeing how the vast majority of players are from Canada. It just seems that it's everyone's third choice sport, something to watch when you crave sports but nothing else is on.

I love LOVE hockey. Always have.
I especially love Red Wing/Hockeytown hockey!

GO WINGS! 😀

An unrelated side note, why do not many black people play hockey? Is it just demographics?

Very expensive sport to get into, that would be my guess. That mixed with black people don't see many blacks playing, so they probably aren't as interested in it at a young age.

Because there's a bunch of white guys skating around with masks on, chasing a black hockey puck with sticks.

Yeah. It's the only sport that I really care about. I watch other sports, but I wasn't pissed when the Giants were eliminated from the playoffs like I was when the Devils were. Oh man I was pissed when the Devils were eliminated. C'est la vie.

My family has 1/4 or 1/2 seasons tickets to the Devils for probably close to 20 years now. I went to a ton of games when I was a kid, now I usually only go to one game a year with my parents.

I don't really follow it but I usually have an idea of who is winning from my dad in the basement. "AHH COME ON!" means the leafs got scored on. Loud clapping means they scored. I never hear clapping though.

Yeah, it's expensive, not as popular in the south (though the NHL has been trying to change that), a large percentage of the players come from Canada or Europe, the season overlaps basketball and football seasons, etc.

My kids will play hockey. Hopefully they'll like it. 😛

I never even thought of the sexual role-playing potential of hockey.

No. I once had a co-worker offer to take my wife and I to a denver hockey game(no idea of the teams name). I turned him down. I told hom there was undoubtedly someone else who would enjoy it more.

woo!! wings!

i went to school where pro hockey started in the USA with the portage lakers, Houghton MI, in the amphadrome, which burned and was replaced with a similar stadium, the DEE, which still stands and hosts hockey and other events.

watch every Caps game and played on 2 or 3 teams at once sometimes. I live it and so will my boys. 😀 Hopefully they'll have a chance to make the pros since I'm starting them early... not at 15 like I did. 🙁

I don't expect non-hockey fans to really vote much though... I wouldn't even bother going into a basketball thread with the same title.

Canadian players are plentiful because ice is way more available to them. Many stories of their childhood spent in makeshift rinks outside somewhere. I'd spend all day out there too.
