There is a multitude of games available now, thanks to Steam, GOG, etc. Unfortunately, RTS games which were one of my favorites have pretty much disappeared. Seems kind of like cable channels, so many channels (games) and nothing new and exciting to watch (play).

I have a pretty big backlog on Steam, but end up playing only two or three at a time.

I agree on RTS games, when a new one cones out everyone is trying to do something different that can't be done. I'd prefer them to work on better AI.
If you haven't tried Supreme Commander Forged Alliance do it. Game is always on sale somewhere. DO NOT GET SUPREME COMMANDER 3, completely different game.

I usually play at least two or three games and very rarely just "lock" myself to one unless I'm very focused on it, although that does happen from time to time.

When I'm "game-locked" to just one title it's usually because it was just released and I'm drawn in until I complete it. In recent years games like the Mass Effect trilogy pretty much "locked" me for a few days playing only that (a good five days or so for my first ME1 play-through, around a week for my first ME2 play-through, and maybe 3 days or so for ME3). That, or games like STALKER SoC (couldn't play anything else for a good week, maybe more), Dragon Age Origins (first play-through took me a good 4 or 5 days, maybe more, but the point is I couldn't and didn't want to play any other games), heck even Dragon Age 2 (first time playing it I took a good 3 days without touching anything else before finishing it).

Those are just a few examples, there's many more (and much older ones of course). The gist of it is that I'm only focused on one game if I'm planning to complete it and it's new, and I like it (duh). After I complete them, however, I usually have a good 3+ games to switch between on a regular basis. As of now I got about 300+ games and maybe half of them are installed, and out of those installed I've been playing about 4 of them lately. I just started a new game in both Dragon Age Origins and DA2 (in preparation for Inquisition, although I'm doing this in advance and not just a week before Inquisition's release) but I'm also playing my occasional skirmish in Tiberian Sun, Soulstorm (WH40K), playing my daily ME3 multi-player (at least two Gold matches per day) and just playing Primal Carnage for the heck of it from time to time (and Borderlands 2 as well).

I've played these but I'd still rather play Total Annihilation lol.
I do play Spring from time to time.

I like to play a few games at a time.

Right now I am playing through Borderlands and also do a lot of racing on GTA4 online. And sometimes I hop on Black Ops 2. I try to only have one single player game going at a time though.

I played Age of Empires, CS 1.6, StarCraft, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein for years on end, I didn't get into D2 competitive but I liked it single player. I played SC2 fairly consistantly but I find the game is too demanding, now I stick with LoL far easier to play even with the toxic community. I dabble on single player games when the communities drive me nuts. I need to get TF2 or another casual FPS.

I've played many games during my life, but right now I'm locked on league of legends. Life changes as you get older and it's just so easy to launch LoL and play a few games. Friends are also playing it, which contributes a lot to the fact that I am still playing it.

It's a lot more fun to play with friends, probably the reason why I'm still playing the game.

There's also the grind that's built into a lot of games now in the form of "levels," "prestige," or achievements. I have a massive Steam backlog (hundreds of games bought and never played) but the only thing I've played for months is Payday 2 because it's got me on this system of leveling up to level 100 then going "infamous" and resetting my progress.

and yet people still complain about DLC and "chopped up games" when half their backlog is unplayed because games nowadays are so huge and offer so much to do, they get stuck on playing them forever.

kind of a dichotomy there.

I usually go through "genre phases".

That is to say, I don't necessarily get locked into one "game", but rather a whole genre. For instance right now, I'm on an historical strategy kick. Europa Universalis IV, Napoleon Total War (modded), and Scourge of War Antietam/Gettysburg.

Also starting to crave some western RPGS: Baldur's Gate, Skyrim (heavily modded), and Morrowind (super heavily modded)

I don't get what's so special about FTL

I saw good things about it and think I was one of the first to post about it here, then played a few games and really just didn't like it even though I like other roguelikes.

It's just one of those games that fits some tastes and not others, and for me the frustration factor was there without fun - and I have played hundreds/thousands of original rogue.

In the early days of PC gaming, everything was singleplayer. It was much easier to finish a game and move on, so we played a ton of different games. The whole PC and PC gaming thing was new and exciting too, so there was always something innovative and different right around the corner. That's how I remember the late 80's --> early 90's.

Then games started to incorporate multiplayer, in deathmatch or co-op modes, so there was some replayability and we started to play games longer. Later came games fully designed around multiplayer, and developers learned that they could keep people buying and playing their games for years with expansions and mods. Prior to that it was: create singleplayer game...sell X amount of copies...then create next game.

In the late 90's, with games like Quake, Starcraft, Ultima Online, Everquest, Half-life (and it's mods), etc... people started to stick with certain games for long periods of time. I'm glad for the replayability we have today, and hate that some developers dump their games so early to start working on the next one.

Yup locked into League of Legends and Wargame Red Dragon.

I stray occasionally to other games but not too often.

Yeah as mentioned earlier its a shame RTS is essentially dead but to be fair I don't know if I would even want to play RTS anymore. Im much more of a multiplayer guy these days and RTS multiplayer was always brutal, I was never the guy who always lost though I would win most of the time but it was taxing. I like LoL because ive only got 1 unit to worry about and Wargame because its slower paced, both these games are still fun without being dumbed down and un-challenging. I want to chill more I guess.

Or just forget about it, like with UT and UT2004 and UT3.

Are you able to get past that part with the blonde mechanic?
My game always has a quest bug and I can never complete it.

you may need the 1.04 patch, which is just an executable file (you can google for it). the default steam version is 1.02, and apparently contains some game-breaking bugs.

the game is good. my only complaint is that there are a lot of obscure items you need or people you need to talk to. if i didn't use a walkthrough, i'm not sure i'd ever actually finish the game.

The world changed so much in the past 10 (heck look at 100 years and planes) years that new innovations are altering the way we live our daily lives. It won't be long that we will scrap computers other than for security and programming purposes and live with some very nice things to occupy our time and shed new ways of making our living fun and enjoyable.

I Pretty much play a game until I compete it, then move on. If it isn't a game that I can compete I usually accomplish what I want to accomplish then move on. It appears I've played most games I liked for approximately 100 hours. So I guess I usually get bored with a game after 100 hours.

375hrs into bf4 now. Just about all I've played since it came out. Normally I don't get so locked. Last time I played one game this much had to be a mmo.
