making you feel like an alien in your own country is a poor business practice. i wouldn't give that store any more business.

I think businesses are becoming too accommodating to the idea of selling their inventory to customers.

Damn those businesses! It's like they think their main purpose is to make money or something.

😕

How about you work on your English before you start telling others what language they should speak, mkay?

You're a dick.

Sorry I like to speak English, in America. Want to speak Spanish? Go right ahead. I shouldnt have to go thru Spanish options when using anything electrical. If you cant read, write, and speak English, you shouldnt be in this Country. Take their illegal, boarder crossing butts back to Mexico. I wouldnt expect English options in some random area of Mexico, and likewise dont think they should be there.

Also, bet you wouldnt say that to my face. Ahh, the anonymity of the internet. 😉 All too common to insult someone, or make threats with no repercussions.

Its called, saving time. I dont use ' either, yet I know where they go. Mkay, isnt a word. And you didnt use a comma where you were supposed to. Dont be a hypocrite, or ignorant.

We start sentences with capitals, in the English language. Dont try to correct someone, and fail yourself. Once again, dont be a hypocrite.

Which language is "our language"? There are plenty of folks born in the US who don't speak english.

english.

you wouldn't immigrate to france and speak english. you'd be expected to learn and primarily speak french. same with virtually every other country on this planet. people can speak spanish and whatnot all they want in their homes etc. but you should learn english.

here's something written by Theodore Roosevelt that I very much agree with (at the time, he was writing about becoming an American vs. being communist)

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Do you live in England.

Part of the issue in this thread is that the version of American history taught in K-12 ignores so much American history. The Spanish settled in the city where I now live before there was a United States and some of the families living here have lived here since that time and they speak spanish. English became the majority language here beginning in the 1900s. Folks from the East and Midwest (myself included) learned a history that started with the English settlements on the east coast and the historical geography of this version of American history only grows with anglo expansion westward. This leads folks to believe, wrongly, that all spanish speakers must be recent arrivals who refuse to adopt the language of their new found home when, in reality, it is the relative newcomers who brought the english language with them and refused to adapt to local custom. The result is a city with a high degree of acceptance of both languages. Only the snowbirds bitch about it but they bitch about everything.

Discuss.

Make up your mind you racist POS.

what the hell is your problem you fucker?
get your facts straight before you call someone a racist piece of shit - nationalists are not the same thing as racists

Fixed.
"America" is a latinized word where most people speak latinized languages (like Spanish), so using it doesn't really help your argument. 😛

I agree that everyone living in this country should speak English, but also that if some people don't the rest of us shouldn't really care.

I find it annoying that they have street signs in some parts of town in chinese. When they move to an english speaking contry they should try and learn the local language.

Wow, some of you are really quick to sell out America to make a buck. Most legal Mexican immigrants can speak English. In fact every legal Mexican immigrant I have met could.

But sure, invite those who don't give enough of a damn about America to learn English to leech off our services and make us a third world country. See how that works out!

If it goes south I'm going North. 😉

Legals make up about 1/100th of the Mexicans roaming around America right now. And all this effort to make everything Spanish isnt for that handful of people. Its for the 10 million illegals that will probably take over in the next generation.

Bank of America in Newnan, GA has more Spanish-language literature than English. Their standees are primarily Spanish. The Spanish literature is front & center... it's hard to find the English-language versions or they are both on the same pamphlet with Spanish taking priority. This is in an area that it predominantly Engligh-speaking US citizens by a large margin, not at all like Texas or SoCal. The reason they can do this is because they are catering to a market the other banks are not: Those who do not have an SSN but need banking services and need to send money back home. Most other banks there require an SSN to open a checking account, and BoA even "required" mine, though they don't ask for shit if they think you look Mexican (my grandmother was born in Mexico and I've probably got a bit from other places, but I don't even nearly look Latino).

No time for one keypress? Really?

It really should remember your preference. There are unique identifies in every card's magnetic strip that are not related to your account security and perfectly OK to associate with a preference setting stored locally. Also, most ATMs have a stupidly-long delay before and after every prompt.

I'd quite happily tell you, right to your dickish face, that what you think and what you say makes you a dick.

Also, dicks don't realize that 'America' extends down to the tip of Argentina. Dick.

Mexico is in America. They speak Spanish along with pretty much the rest of central and South America, sans Brazil. Brazil is in America and they speak Portuguese ("almost" Spanish). Significant portions of Canada speak French. If anything, America's natively English-speaking population is only "comparable" to the others. How's that for "straight forward?"

OP, if they were just displaying signs is español only, that is one thing, obviously where you live has a huge latino population, they are
just catering to their clientele. Aprenda hablar español ftw?

Have you been to other countries before? If there is a popular place that attracts tourists, they have signs in multiple languages, because they are catering to their clients.

And this coming from someone who wants everyone that lives here to learn basic English.
