I see you failed to see what my point was.......if you were to pit an IDENTICAL speed AMD setup vs. an Intel setup im willing to bet the AMD would stomp the hell outta the P4 now those nice little tests that use SSE2 and HT the P4 may come out on top...why? But the author of this thread is not talking about default and we all now that amd at same mhz (not pr rating) would be faster cause it has a higher IPC...Duh!!! tell us something we haven't hashed over a billion times...
And you need to go back and look at the reviews again...not all test use SSE2 and you obviously know little to nothing about HT as it has virtually no effect on majority of all apps when ran alone. MOst reviews can't really test HT unless they do multitasking operations and most plain don't...if they did many could really see how much of an advantage the p4c 3.2ghz has against its want to be nemesis the disappointing overrated Barton 3200+...
I am very happy with my AMD rig. My only doubt is maybe I should have bought a 2500+ barton instead of a 1700+ t-bred b.

1700+ that I run at 2100mhz =$43
That gives me a very quick system (board + proc) for only $128 dollars ! Stable as anything, great for working in 3ds max. (I have ver4, not the sse2 optimized ver5).
No complaints, and I definately don't feel behind. However, I will feel behind once the Athlon64 is released

Yes of course I know that... but my friend didn't seem to... since he called me a liar, and actually came to my house to watch me run the benchmark and see the score.
There's the A, B, and C revisions right... so was that crappy core that wasn't any better than a P3 the A? And it never changed until the 533 Mhz bus versions came out, and that was designated B? Or was there a core revision in between that went un-named?

oh c'mon now..... the 3200 is about %5 to %7 slower than 3.0 If you make claims like that you'll have to back it up. I'm an AMD fan myself and all my systems are AMD but no matter how you slice and dice it do a pricematch right now and or the first time in history you'll see that Intel is selling a faster chip cheaper than AMD. It comes down to this, are you willing to pay more for a slower chip just because you like AMD.

I am totally happy with my AMD 3000+XP i do not regret not having an Intel machine.AMD is much powerful than INtel and cheap too.

I dont really care anymore about those ppl running at 'oooOOh, 4ghz with phase change cooling' because i know i spent like.. 1/4 of that for a nice overclocking cpu (1700+ or 2500+ for that matter) a great motherboard, and a very high class heatsink. now i just compare my rig to other AMD's

Of course, it's always easier to compare Pinto to Pinto than Pinto to a Corvette.
Bottom line, we need both in business so we don't have to pay an arm and a leg for these chips.Im very happy with my P4 rig, My last two AMD rigs were good, but always need "babying" in something. At this point when I was looking to upgrade, the P4 overclocking ability and the scores in comparison to even the Barton seemed to justify the extra cost. I wasn't going to splurge for the unproven Prescott and to be honest, im not at all impressed with AMD's lack of performance and OC recently from their Bartons, and there Athlon 64 seemed more vaporware then anything else with not a single bit of info on its performance as the launch gets nearer. Basically for ME, not YOU, ME.. it boiled down to this..

Is performance gain and OC worth for my needs? Yes
Do I have to much money? Yes
Can I spend my money how I see fit? Fvck yeah

Very happy here with my AMD, having same performance (if not more) as a 2.6C with my Barton at... half the price(at least in the Basque Country).

I play for both teams so I take advantage of the strenghts of both processors :beer: I don't have HT support but with 4 rigs in my quiver I can accomplish all of my multitasking needs better than even a 3.6ghz HT 1ghz+FSB system could so I'm in no hurry to upgrade just yet. I will either go Prescott or AMD64 next since the HT P4s just don't offer enough over my current 3gh P4 considering my usage/needs to warrant the expenditure, YMMV

all i know is, the prescott is going to be impressive. the early athlon64 benches that were released were disappointing to me. actually, thats when i bought my 2.6c. i was going to wait until the athlon64 came out, as i was a AMD buyer since the k6-2's. budget is one thing, but so is top performance. as stated in this thread many times, for once intel is cheaper then AMD when it comes to the best performing chip. my 2.6c @ 3.11ghz is way more then enough power for me, i get over 400fps in quake 3 with a gf4mx 440. my q3 is tweaked of course, but come on. 400 fps in q3 with a gf4mx440, man thats badass.

Then as I try to make sense of it all (with all those amd'ers blowing away all those poor little p4's, 50 bucks cheaper) I have to wonder what the heck an 'mx', 'g4 series' or whatever year old card is doing in that system ??? WOW !!! LOL !!!

The author of the tread isn't even talking about which is truly better and faster! He was asking only if we were happy with our choice or wish we would have waited! It is all of the replies that turned this into a brand flame thread.
Buying today's hottest components only to see them outperformed next month is part of the enthusiast market! We all know it. Honestly, yes... I would rather my system had a 875/P4c platform, but the performance of my Tbred/9700p rig at 2.4ghz is blistering fast at all that it does. Right now I could probably get $225 for my mb/cpu/ram by guaranteeing 2.4ghz and put that with an extra $200 and have a sweet 865/DCDDR/2.4 @ 3.? rig and have some noticable improvement in performance. All of this to watch the Prescotts in a few? months be unveiled and wish that I had waited again.
i don't really feel behind, but the idea of 3.5ghz ht w/1000fsb sounds really appealing. the memory bandwidth w/p4s are also very appealing to me. i've been itching to go back to intel lately, but i'll probably stick with my 2100+@ 2.5ghz for a little longer. at least until i can swing ~ $300 for an intel upgrade.

Nope... with 3 rigs running 2300mhz (AMD) and all are cute little XP1700+ Tbred B`s with 2 @ $45 ea and 1 @ $50 and all on 200fsb or better...

I wonder if all the IDE-drive users feel "left behind" by the existence of 15000rpm SCSI drives? Eh?
I don't see too much I/O envy out there, for some reason.Today I could really have used a second 15000rpm SCSI drive for what I was doing (building an Office2000Pro administrative installation point creation kit for my IT department). To make a long story short, the AthlonXP 2500+ was definitely not the bottleneck!
If I have to wrangle with any more of this tomorrow I'm definitely firing up my old Quantum Atlas 10k for a holding tank until I can afford to grab me one of those Fujitsu MAS-series units to go with my Cheetah X15-36LP.
