Do you feel sorry for people without SSD's?

I really can't go to an SSD right now. I'm on a laptop, and while I would love to switch HDs out, my 500GB HD is already 3/4 full. An SSD drive in the 500GB range is just too dang expensive.

every laptop with a dvd-rom has a hack/option to remove that for a 2ndary drive.

ie 1TB 2.5" SFF in dvd-rom spot, 160gb boot ssd in primary 1.8" position.

It might not be OEM but it exists.

The question I have is... what in the world are you putting on the drive to fill it up that much? I'm assuming things like multimedia and such. With my laptop, which only has one bay, I have an external HDD that I leave in the laptop bag that carries stuff like that on it. In fact, if you switch out the HDD for a SSD, just put that old HDD in an enclosure (hopefully one that is only powered by USB to make it easy on you) and you're good to go!

An external hard drive is not always convenient or possible. I have a decent amount of video media on my computer that I like to watch on the go, and about a 4 hour battery life to tide me over to most places.

I have yet to own a SSD, so I guess I really just don't know what I'm missing out on. I'll probably switch out this HD in about 5 years when the prices for SSDs are about $100/TB. Maybe sooner at $100/500GB

At first I was, "I wanna go over to the OP's house and punch his face in, tie him to a chair, then rip his SSD out from his PC, take a piss all over it, then plug it back into his computer."

Then I was, "Gee, this is probably some 12yr old who doesn't even grasp common sense yet. I should pity him."

But then I was, "No, I shouldn't pity him. I should just break into his house and take his "precious" from him and put it on the tallest mountain top."

But then I was, "No, that's reaching into the realm of uber geek."

So finally I was, "Who honestly gives two shits about wastes of oxygen like this guy?"

So there. An inside look into the psyche of Sentrosi2121.

I get the same feeling thinking about those without an SSD as I do when I happen to be next to a big lumbering Cadillac in my BMW M Roadster.

Not as sorry as I feel for the members of the SBBTC (Sandy Bridge Beta Tester Club).

Sorry! Could not resist!

No regrets - except that I didn't get the 2600K. In a few months...

Just got a new laptop today with an Intel G2 in it. At first I was like "this is it?". Firefox didn't run faster, Windows maybe booted a little faster.

Then I searched for a particular email title in Outlook....Holy Bejebus!!! Instant results. I mean Outlook was running so fast that I was confused, thought I was doing something wrong.

Can't wait to see what else moves this quick, going to have to try out some database work.

Try loading 800 fonts into your machine and opening Illustrator or Photoshop. Absolute bliss.

Now that I joined the SSD club, it's gonna be hard to not put one into my E8600 system.

For whatever its worth I am running E8600 at 3.8 Ghz. I installed an 80 GB G2 in Nov 2009 and consider it one of the most worthwhile computer related purchases I ever made. The bang for the buck is incredibly high. The instant response to mouse clicks is incredibly gratifying. For the first time ever I have a machine that operates as I think a computer should operate. Do yourself and your E8600 a favor, just do it.
