Do You Feel Safer

I feel safer. AQ was empowered by the Bush administration, and now that Obama has shown he's willing to sit down and talk about things, we really wont need Gitmo anymore. AQ only hated America because of GWB, and now that he's gone, they can focus their attention somewhere else knowing they have a friend in Barak Obama.

The Brown Terra-ists will quickly organize massive prison breaks and immediately assault yer White wimmin in obscene and pornographic ways ...

I didn't know I was ever expected to feel unsafe. Hell, I've never feared terrorist attacks. Some American I am. 🙁

Exactly. Al Qaeda is off the hook now. But if you're a Somali pirate, better duck. Obama no likee pirates.

I don't feel "safer", but neither do I feel any "less safe" than before.

I think that it's a bit naive to think that the only reason OBL and AQ disliked the US was GWB and that they will suddenly ignore us now that Obama is in office though. While the attacks on NYC did happen during Bush's presidency, AQ had been pushing an anti-US line for nearly a decade. To say that they only attacked because they didn't like Bush is a gross over-simplification. The hard-liners hated the US well before Bush and it seems pollyanna-ish to believe that they will stop hating the US now that Bush is out of office.

With regard to the video, I quite agree that it is ridiculous. I am more than a little angry with how forcefully some conservatives are pushing the fear angle right now.

I love the music.

I live in NYC, more likely to get hit by terrorists than the heartland, and yes, I feel far safer now that adults are running the country.

But someone sure as hell still wants you to feel scared crapless.

I feel safe knowing the guys who made that video aren't the guys running this country.

Fair, but I feel that as America's standing in the world recovers, fewer will be pushed into extremism.

I'm not sure anyone's making that argument. Bush had only been in office 9 months, no one short of Michael Moore could blame him as the motivating cause of 9/11. But after 9/11 we sorta said "screw you" to the rest of the planet, we're gonna go our own way. Iraq did not improve our standing and we squandered any sympathy we might have had. Al Qaeda recruitment spiked after Iraq, after Abu Ghraib, after the abuses at Guantanamo. There will always be extremists, but reducing their rallying cry is a nice big step in reducing the size of the threat, just by lowering the number of people willing to blow themselves up to kill us.

I'm going to assume you're joking. If not, you don't have a very long memory.

hes joking. although Aq was empowered by bush. Bush played right into their hands. Fucking simpleton.

Rudy Guiliani save me?

That argument sure worked during the 2008 Republican primary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can't even sell that argument to republicans, do you really think any democrats will buy it?????????????????????????????????????

But even as a partisan democrat, I have to admit the AL-Quida threat is real, but when GWB torture policies swell the ranks of AL-Quida recruitment , GWB torture policies do anything but make me feel safer yet.

How was Dubya the sole motivation behind the 2000 USS Cole attack? How was Dubya the sole motivation behind Bin Laden declaring war against America back in 1996? How was Dubya the sole motivation for Bin Laden to declare in '98 that it is the duty of all Muslims to kill Americans and our allies?

Bush Sr. was the reason for AQ going on the rampage. He put bases in Saudi Arabia for the first gulf war, and that was what set off bin Ladin.

Saudi Arabia has Mecca and Medina, the max holy sites of Islam. He was infuriated with sinful infidels occupying such holy land.

Then, GWB used the term "crusade" 3 times in speeches in the runup to Gulf War II, which was like fighting a fire by hooking up your hose to a gasoline tanker.

Need any more blame to pass around?

I agree 100%. The zealots and leaders of both sides have been patently ridiculous to me for quite some time. Although I have many conservative (and more than a few liberal) ideals, the party leadership of both sides accomplish little but fanning the flames of bitter partisanship and polarization.

And for the record, I hold terrorism at a threat level about equal to being struck by a falling block of frozen shit from a passing airliner, personally. It's an issue that should be handled by the intelligence agencies and the FBI with some cohesive strategy, but not an overwhelming national-defining focal point.

So you do agree with me that Al Queda hates America for reasons other than Dubya. 😕

When have I ever said differently?

I am always interested in using facts to form and express my opinions.

If you insist on bringing up GWB though; the facts support with great clarity that his words and actions generated a far greater number of people desiring to support and be affiliated with AQ than bin Laden's words could have ever achieved on their own.

GWB became something of a force multiplier for AQ.
