Do you feel emotionally attached to your car or computer?

I feel very emotionally attached to my car, and somewhat to my computer. I can't really explain why, I guess just because these two items get more attention from me than any other inanimate object, and so it leads you to become very...."close"....to it, if you know what I mean.

How about you?

I've only had my car for a little bit so no with the car, but a little with the computer since I put my own flesh and blood and love into building it.

I was just thinking about this today while driving my car. It has been with me through high school, six moves, one long term relationship, three schools, three jobs, etc. All these things came and went but the truck has always been there.

So I changed the oil and caressed it gently.

No and No ... at one time I was attached to both. Now I realize that the the car is simply a way to get around and the computer is an entertainment device.

To my computer, definitely.

I was thinking of building a Fleshlight into the front of the case.

I voted no for the car but I actually do think I'm attached. I don't really have any attachment to my computer except for my mp3's.

No and maybe a little. I used to be very attached to my computer... when my first computer died I cried while hugging it, prayed for it to live again.

I'm attached to my car. It's been my faithful servant for many years. I'm pretty anal about the paint job. A recurring theme in my dreams is something going wrong with my car like getting stolen or crushed. I never actually worry about it, though I do keep a close eye on it.

Cars - No on the BMW and the Prelude, yes on the T/A. I've had that car for ~8 years now. It's the first car I picked out, bought + paid for completely myself, with no influence from parent-types who always pushed for "safe" boaty 4-door sedans. I learned how to work on cars almost exclusively on it - one of the first major things I did was swapped the engine myself in my parents' garage. I'll probably have that one forever.

Computer - no.

Computer - yes, I like it. It's speedy, does what I need it to do, and hey, I built it myself.

Car - hate it. I'm societally obligated to have one, I don't like driving, and it eats up money that I could use on things I actually do want.

No for the car, it is a piece of garbage and I will be glad to see it go.

Yes for the computer; I occasionally stroke it's nice brushed metal and glossy front. And then wipe off the fingerprints.

Yes for both. I can't even drive my car right now, and I bought it for such a ridiculously low sum, that i could easily make double what I put in as profit, and I still don't want to get rid of it. It's my first car I bought a paid for myself.

As for this computer, not so much as my car. I'd be sad if it died, but mainly because i spent lots of money on it. I keep my previous computer's case around because that one I was fairly attached to, it was my first full-ATX case and it held 3 different incarnations.

No to both.

The only computers I have ever had emotional attachments to were my PowerBooks.

Which car?

914: Very much.

951: Very much.

Mustang: Meh, I like it, and I treat it well, but I know that I will someday get rid of it and I am not bothered by that.

I used to be attached to both, now not at all... material things can always be replaced, cars/computers are just tools...

Yes for my computer because I built and it's so purdy. And it has all my awesome stuff. If there was a fire in the house, I'd probably save my computer.

Car is much more expensive, and maintenance is tougher..however I built my comp with my own two hands, hmm.

It's like saying do you feel more emotionally attached to your spouse, or to your kid.

I am emotionally attached to some of my cars but that is to be expected since I am much more intimate with them than most people are. I have either restored or completely built most of them. Computers on the other hand are simple tools and I don't have any attachment to any of them and I have built them all too. Computers become obsolete, a fine automobile never does.

I'm not asking which you feel more attached to, just if you feel emotionally attached to either.
