Do you ever watch the commentaries that come on the DVDs?

No Lifer
Personally, I've always found them quite BORING.

My roommate is watching Jerry Maguire on Commentary soundtrack right now... :disgust:

I've watched a few of mine. I normally just watch the movie and the other special features. Every time I go back and want to watch the movie, I don't want to watch it with the director, actors, etc. talking over it. I really should listen to some more of the commentaries. I've heard some of them are quite good.

Both of the Evil Dead 1 commentaries are excellent, but the Bruce Campbell one was especially good. Very entertaining to hear the story-behind-the-story.

The Re-animator commentary was good, something about creating low-budget ultraviolent horror movies makes for good stories 🙂

The Simpsons disc 1 commentaries are interesting and worth a listen.

I gave up on the Conan commentary are about 10 minutes, Ahnold and John Milius seemed to be grasping for things to say -- maybe if I'd fast-forwarded at bit it would get better.

So I'd say they can be good, indifferent, or boring -- depends on the movie, the people, and what they have to say about it. I was quite disappointed that Tank Girl and Buckaroo Banzai didn't have them 🙂

yes, i usually won't buy a dvd that doesn't have a commentary. i have to make exceptions for some movies like ghost world though since i wanted to see badly and it's not the type of movie that will ever get a new version of it made. dark city has an awesome commentary by roger ebert on it.

the only one ive listened to was for final destination, not bad considering that's the 1st dvd i ever watched (got a dvd a few christmas's ago).. it was nice they had the actors do some commentary. the ones with the directors/behind the scenes people are boring..

i only watched the ones with "the 6th sense" becuz i was actually interested in the movie. otherwise, i don't give a crap.

All the time.

My favorite would have to be the commentary from Armageddon (Criterion Version) with Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck & Michael Bay.

definetly. but it depends, some aren't worth experiencing of course. good way to find out is to checkout a dvd review site, they ussually are pretty accurate about the level of bullsh*t in a commentary. also depends on the movie, some commmentaries give quite a bit of insight into the making of the movie.. or the times it was created etc.. especially good for old movies.

obviously ur not going to watch commentary for dude wheres my car😛

ussually i play commentarys in windvd 3.1🙂 that way i can crank up dvd playback speed to 1.5-2x with "normal" sound.

one good one is the on the dark city dvd. done by roger ebert himself🙂
