Do You Ever Use the Optical Drive

What is the fear of having one? I hear this all the time.

I don't know. A DVD+RW drive is about 20 bucks. A blu ray burner is ~75 dollars right now.

Evey few months some "fetish like Cool action" takes place, as a result the Crowd get fearful about being Cool.

As an example, if you do not haveba PSU that it is twice the Wattage needed for you rig and you still have a DVD Drive, you are Not Super Uncool.

It's definitely a fear for me. I noticed that often when I "buy" things i give the seller money, take the thing i want, and then they never give back my money.

I fear that if I "buy" an optical drive, something similarly dreadful will happen. I guess for things like food and clothes it's not as scary since I at least get to keep something useful (knock on wood). But with an optical drive, if they don't give me back the money, then they may as well have thrown a giant chunk of wood at me. What am i supposed to do with a giant chunk of wood, knock on it?

I still have one in two three rigs and need to replace one I bought for the third that died, was the only reason I commented.

I still rarely use them myself.

As cheap as they are to install, it usually worth just having one, like small floppies used to be in case ya need it I guess for system things, but I guess you can do a lot of that with thumb drives these days really.

You can do more things with a chunk of wood than you can with an ODD!

I don't think there's a fear of having one. Not having one does open up the possibility of building a smaller PC, since the ODD and 3.5" HDD are two of the bulkiest parts in a PC.

I rarely ever use mine. The last time I used it was to install Mint on my laptop which was like 9 months ago. And even in those cases I'd still prefer to use a flash drive. Unless you have a BR burner I don't really see the use anymore.
