I noticed today that i recently started passing people on the right when they dont move over on the highway. Im not mean about it (i.e. i dont flash my brights or ride their ass). I just pass them on the right if i dont think they move over in a decent amount of time...

Do you?

Yeah, if they are obviously going to slow (like the speed limit or under) and the left lane is blocked or somehow i can't really get in there... i'll just ease on by them in the right lane. They usually get the hint and take the right lane after I pass so they don't obstruct traffic.

Drivers in South Florida dont seem to get the hint. They stay in the lane no matter how many people pass em.

If I have to, yes. Most people are smart enough to either stay out of the left lane or move out temporarily if they see someone approaching at a fast rate.

Yes, tail-gating is rude and dangerous(blocking the left/fast lane is very inconsiderate also). So I end up passing slow pokes on the right.

No. I don't have an extra $350 to give to the courts just because I was in a hurry. I can wait it out. Doesn't bother me at all.

And here, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason you see the line of 6 jackholes driving behind each other going 64 miles an hour in the left lane.... Let's give him a round of applause, shall we??

Yup, any time I make a long trip I end up having to pass some asshat on the right.

The best was this one guy in a junker going 60 in the left lane (speed limit is 70 here), me and a whole string of other cars were forced to pass him on the right. He seemed completely oblivious. A few miles later he went wizzing by well over 80MPH, until he was well out of my sight. Few minutes later I passed him on the right again, as he was doing 60 again. Odd.

You realize it's only illegal to pass on the right when there's only 1 lane per direction, right?

from the California Vehicle Code:

21754. The driver of a motor vehicle may overtake and pass to the right of another vehicle only under the following conditions:

(a) When the vehicle overtaken is making or about to make a left turn.

(b) Upon a highway within a business or residence district with unobstructed pavement of sufficient width for two or more lines of moving vehicles in the direction of travel.

(c) Upon any highway outside of a business or residence district with unobstructed pavement of sufficient width and clearly marked for two or more lines of moving traffic in the direction of travel.

(d) Upon a one-way street.

(e) Upon a highway divided into two roadways where traffic is restricted to one direction upon each of such roadways.

The provisions of this section shall not relieve the driver of a slow moving vehicle from the duty to drive as closely as practicable to the right hand edge of the roadway.

Oh give me a break. E sounds like what it makes it ok though to do here...besides the speeding part but everybody does anyway, either that or its commute time (yech). Highway, grass, guardrail, grass, highway.
