it sounds stupid, but i think that 3dMark is responsible for like half of the upgrades made by users of this site. have you seen people posting about this ? it's all over the video and general hardware sections. people saying they can't wait to go from their XP2100 to a 2400 so they can get like 20 more 3d points....what's the point of that.

I wouldn't doubt that. People flip out about when they change drivers and loose points in 3dmark.
 
Not really, I'm not a hardcore gamer so I rarely have any problems running anything. I recently upgraded from a 700Mhz Duron to a P4 2.4Ghz, but only because I got a great deal. The Duron was still fine, it ran Neverwinter Nights smoothly with a GF2 MX and 384MB RAM (although at the second-lowest resolution). The new P4 really doesn't seem much quicker for everyday use.
 
No... most of the slowness in computers today has to do with the hard drive. It's by far the slowest part of the computer.
