Do you ever actually scan QR codes?

Nope.

A friend said they found a good coupon for Macy's or Bloomingdale's, which was in the form of a hidden QR code in ads that were displayed around the city. In that case I might do it, otherwise I just can't be bothered.
 
I imagine it's just going to load a mobile variant of the advertisement you see.

I used to use it to scan market links to apps so I could go straight to them on my phone, but now that we can install apps via the computer, there's no need for that anymore.
 
Rarely. Almost never for advertisements.

Some museum I went to a few months back had QR codes attached to various exhibits. Scanning them would take you to a YouTube video regarding that exhibit. I thought that was a pretty good use of them.

Now that actually sounds like a cool idea.
 
When I went to BB to get a vacuum I used it for the first time to read reviews of them while I was there. They had one code on each tag with the price on it. Worked well. Can't think of any other situation I would use them for though.
 
I'm starting to see them on websites now. Do they really expect people to scan their computer screen? Why not just display the info right on the site or link to it 😕

I saw one today on a Vevo advertisement before a music video.

Using the QR codes to link something quickly on your phone is one thing but to put them on ads lol

I saw a few on TV ads, I tried to scan one but it went off the TV before I got to it, do people think they are sitting close to the TV god...
 
my GF uses them on ads for her behavior research lab on campus. The scan leads to the lab's website where new participants can register if they choose. to me, this seems like the best type of use for these--the public market.

rather than tear off a little slip with a phone number from some random flyer, just scan a code that takes you to the tutor's website for their contact info, or maybe access a map if you are approaching a trail head--something like that.

I can see it being used for coupons, but simple advertising is just stupid. Of course, they will be used for that, primarily.

My library has qr codes in all the catalog entries. Instead of writing down all the call numbers, I just scan the qr codes and use my phone to find the books in the stacks.
