Do you enjoy silence?

I am one of those guys who enjoys total silence once in a while, but I know a lot of people (young and old) who can't stand silence, and always turn on a radio or TV even if they are not going to watch anything. They say that total silence is like being in a funeral...

I prefer a bit of white noise, but a little sensory deprivation does a body good once in a while.

I prefer to have noise, I have a sound machine to help me sleep, but when I'm in a quiet environment it doesn't bother me.

I drive around a lot for work and I find that a lot of coworkers find long stretches of silence in the car uncomfortable. They don't bother me though

I do not mind silence at all, but there are some times when I prefer background noise or even just a fan.

Having children you realize how precious those few minutes between the time that you just woke up and the time that they are up. I love silence.

silence is golden. I know many people that can't function without noise (they refer to it as music) around them. I have to wonder if you are even giving your brain a chance to think when you do something like that.

Not absolute silence, it maybe nice for only some time...
But I like silence with the only noise being nature's noise, breeze, leaves, birds.... its heaven...

It really depends on the person. My brother can't do work/homework without his stereo blasting at max. OTOH I can't do work/homework without it being completely silent.

I can't function without something, usually music, but otherwise people/TV making noise.
If it's silent I just go mad.
I have music playing pretty much every minute I am awake, and have music on while I'm going to sleep as well.

I prefer absolute silence when it comes to sleeping (if I hear music or talking or a TV I absolutely can not fall asleep, ever, but a fan is OK.)

I don't mind silence.

About the homework thing. I used to get so distracted from other sounds (a door closing, wind through a tree, etc) that having a single source of sound to drown out other sounds was less distracting.

Total silence is actually a little annoying to me because I can hear my ears ringing a bit (too many band practices and rock shows in front of giant amps). But the "silence" of simply being outdoors away from any roads is golden to me. It only takes a little bit of wind or grass rustling to drown out the ringing. I love my current place, where I can sleep with the windows open and listen to the crickets.

But I know people who have to have the TV blasting all the time, and I can't deal with that. Overstimulation.

This is me, too. I have music playing pretty much 24/7.

I do like it quiet when I'm at a restaurant or when I'm outside.
