Do you encrypt your Android smartphone?

I finally joined the 21st century and got a smartphone. There is an encryption setting.

I read articles that say it's too complicated for sheeples and unnecessary for most of the population. Others point out that people's entire lives are on their phones and it would be stupid not to encrypt. Evidently iPhones are mostly all encrypted whereas very few androids are.

So should I encrypt my phone or not? I've linked my Google account and a couple other accounts as well. I'm not concerned about anyone reading my emails or texts. I haven't done any banking but I was considering the Paypal app since stores are taking it now. I could scan my phone instead of using my credit card.

It's easy to encrypt. Just encrypt it and you're done. All it requires is that you have protected your phone with a pincode.

The only downside with an encrypted phone is that cheaper models can become a little slow. Otherwise it's perfectly fine.

I encrypt all my mobile devices. I don't see any reason not to do it.

OTOH, my answer is simply "No!" I have no reason to encrypt because I don't store anything on my phone. I see no reason to add another layer of complexity that can go wrong.

If you turn on encryption, doesn't that also affect your storage card as well?
So, you couldn't transfer it to your computer or another device?

You can encrypt your SD card if you want. The encryption process is customizable.

Your phone grants you normal access to all files upon boot up after you enter the pin you specified when setting up encryption.

To the user, everything is exactly the same once encryption is set up - except for the pin on boot up. You can transfer your files to any device you want.

It's simple to set up, just a few taps.

Yes and I have for at least 4 years. I haven't noticed any issues related to it.
