Yes. The americanized ones with leather like skins and horrid tasting cabbage inside is the trademark of a crappy chinese buffet.

Even worse, I remember one time at a Circus Circus lunch buffet, they were serving "egg rolls" with leftover eggs from breakfast inside an egg roll wrapper.

Real chinese egg rolls (and their brethren, spring rolls) are excellent.

MSG, bah!

MSG is undermining our childrens future. We must put a stop to this. Boycott MSG and all who consume it.

Who loves... SALT AND PEPPER PORK RIBS? The fried stuff that's salty on top? Omg, you can see the freaking MSG on it. But it's so tasty right? Yup yup. I love grabbing those in Chinatown at my cheap 3 dishes for $15 place that serves genuine Chinese food.

My parents who are health nuts add MSG into some dishes because the Japanese type just tastes so much better and it helps improve the dish. I get yelled at for eating BBQ food because they can list all the cancer causing things in bbq, but they will still use msg....

iirc MSG cooked at high temps is carcinogenous (sp)

The real "Inconvenient Truth" is that Cooking MSG releases ozone depleting gases. For real.

We need to urge world leaders and Pres. Bush to declare a "jihad" against this most vile and dangerous substances posing as a sweet innocent food additive !

Down with MSG!:|

Reading through this thread, I was confused as hell. I had no idea what the hell you people were talking about until I searched up "egg roll" in Wikipedia. I'm Asian, I eat home-cooked chinese cuisine every day... and have never, ever encountered your American version of egg rolls. By the looks of it, your egg rolls look disgusting.

The egg rolls that I know are an open-cylindrical-shaped, sweet, yellowish, flaky-type pastry which is eaten as a snack or maybe a dessert.

PS. Just so you know, real Chinese cuisine isn't filled with MSG and salt. Its just the "Westernised" versions that are. And I've never found them to be very nice.
