Do you discard/ sell/ give away your CDs after you've "ripped" them

Getting sick of CD cases (and DVD cases) taking up storage space, and attracting dust. Would love to get rid of the physical, actual hard copy but:
1) what if my hard drive(s) are damaged/ infected with a virus/ whatever & I lose the music?
2) do I need to keep the original copy to be legal?

Put them in a CD binder, and store them in the closet... Takes away your space problem, but you still have them if necessary.

Don't do it. It will wear down your cd/dvd drive sooner than a geek at the strip clubs trying to hold his own.

I have them all in crates at my folks house. it's all in flac on a 750 GB raid 5 array.

I ran out of space though, I'm going to need a bigger array in short order.

Have all mine in a big, black binder thing made to store CDs. That normally gets kept in the truck but I don't think we ever use it. CDs are all ripped down to a computer running Command Cubes ( http://www.commandcubes.com ) which sends the audio to my whole house whenever I want.

cd binder to save space if you have that many. i was going to back them all up via FLAC or similar, but I don't have enough space. heh

Since new drives are ~$30, it's not really a concern. I probably listen to 99% of my music on my computer or the mp3 deck in my car.

Can you get car stereos that can play off a USB drive? Until I get something like that, I'll have to keep my CDs handy.

Throw them away,... HELL NO! Hard drives are too delicate and fragile.
And expensive vs. a burn.

Throw dicard/away,.. um... I still have boxes to MB, video card, W.o.W. box, hl2, etc. its ART to me and my space.

Edit: If you do throw them out, I'll pm you my address and shipping and handling funds for your collection, since you no longer need it.

That's stupid.

It reflects a psychological need of mine, which is to be unencumbered by excessive amounts of possessions

Yes i keep my cds because harddrives can fail. The bookshelf does suck. Right now I am entertaining the idea of those 508 cd sleeve binder things.
