Do you damage your MB if you dont quickly replace your chipset fan?

My chipset fan on my ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe constantly never works and the the computer always tells me upon boot up...BUT I've been letting this situation drag since July when I first built my computer dont get me wrong though I did email Asus multiple times since the incident happened but they never responded.

My fan started making noise and Asus sent me a new one after a quick call to their tech support number. Forget email....just call them.....they didn't even ask for any proof that I owned the board. The new fan is different and I suppose better.

I still haven't replaced the fan as I was able to stop the noise by removing the fan from its housing, cleaning the dust off it and putting it back in.

As far as damage goes........you tell us.

My local Fry's has a A8N SLI deluxe with dual 6800s on display. The chipset fan has died a long time ago, and the rig runs BF2 all day long. Still running like a champ. Amazing.

I would say that if you are a little worried, call tech support to get a new fan, you will be fine until it arrives. I have had a few pc's that the fan dies or I pulled it becuase it was being noisy and they are still running strong.

I've seen the same thing at two different frys

I wouldnt risk it.. a new fan can be had for ~5$ and will save you the trouble and cost of getting a new mobo.

I'm not sure but I think you have to register your motherboard in order to get an answer from tech support. Either way, it doesn't matter. I would put a Zalman NB47J on it with a 40mm coolermaster fan taken from a coolermaster heatsink. I put on the fan with some thin wire on the side of it.
One guy in general hardware actually copied and pasted an email from Asus telling him the Zalman passive could be a solution. I don't remember the exact wording. But, it's like they were trying to push him in that direction without explicitely recommending it. (Maybe because they don't want to appear to be doing advertising for another company or some odd legal reason.)

I find with the 40mm fan on it, the Zalman is cooler to the touch. Don't know exact temperature but it used to be pretty darn hot.
