You may be shocked to learn that not only do Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Taoists and others get married, but many of these religions consecrated marriages before your Christ was born.

Very well then, I will edit my original statement to reflect that.

That would be my solution to the debate. Get government out of the marriage business entirely. Government would recognize civil unions (or whatever one wants to call them) while "marriage" and its equivalents would be left up to individual religious institutions. That way if Westboro Baptist Church doesn't want to marry gays, it doesn't have to, while the SF Union Square Baptist Church would be free to do so if it chose. There's no reason for the government to butt in one way or the other.

I got the idea from Tony Campolo in his book Red Letter Christians.

Not familiar with it so I looked on Amazon. I'm impressed. Those are fundamentalist Christians I can respect, Christians who embrace the teachings of Christ instead of the "evangelicals" who use religion to justify their hateful and self-serving behavior. They've perverted Christianity into something ugly and hypocritical.

The fact of the matter is the word "moderate" has been taken by the left wing of the Democrat party and turned into something that it isn't.

Small L libertarian here, so probably not a moderate in the views of the statists on both right and left wings who can't resist wanting to control our lives in either the social or economic realms respectively.

Ditto. I'm not a moderate on the Democrat/Republican scale, I'm on a different axis of the graph completely.

According to ATPN I'm a right wing fascist.

I have to disagree with you there. I think it's the Fundamentalists that are using Christianity for their own agenda and the Evangelicals are the ones who embrace the teachings of Christ.

But whatever people like Campolo are like, there are a few like him out there. You just don't hear about them because the media prefers to give all the attention to the crackpots.
