If so, wood cases would be a bad idea.

I've had 'em, though. The top and sides on my old Northstar Horizon, for example, were made from plywood.

I seem to recall some of the Apple II clones (that would have been a little later vintage than the Northstar) having wooden cases. The "Pineapple," I think, had a wooden case, though I never saw one in person.
