I don't even know where to go with all this weirdness, so I guess I'll just stick to the question and be on my way.

Nations, being composed of and run by a variety of people with a wide variety of moral outlooks, are amoral; anyone who *trusts* any nation is setting themself up for failure.

TL: DR, your poll sucks.

Do you consider China an ally? How about North Korea? What about most countries in Africa? Are any of them considered allies? What a stupid poll. But since you are new, I cut you some slack and answered it anyway, just for the noobish factor.

If America were to go to war with Russia, I would join the Bolshevik underground and take every effort to thwart depraved capitalist efforts.

i think the majority of americans should actually get some knowledge about Russia before bashing them.and by knowledge i mean more then just the fact they dont like the gays

I trust them to be sociopathically self interested, same as any country.

When our interests align, it may be nice having an ally thats not afraid to run up a body count. So we shouldnt unnecessarily antagonize them.

What about how it's an extremely corrupt country run by plutocrats and oligarchs? Or their attitudes on civil liberties and personal freedoms?

Granted, I'm posting from Murrica, so I shouldn't throw too many stones.

The violent gay bashers there are in the minority, I am sure. But that still don't give the Russian government a free pass to pass uneducated and stupid legislation against the gays, which are a minority there. So don't be so fast to excuse the leadership there that shouldn't be gay bashing in the first place. And in that respect, we could be talking about the USA in certain parts of the country, as well.

the world is a game of chess.

basically right now, Russia has the ability to possibly make a move that could really change your day to day lives..

they may or may not do it... that's a whole nother can of worms.

but when it comes down to it, i dont think we'll be on the same side as Russia.

i think it'll be EU, US, canada and mexico and all of south america won't be affected to badly, they'll be our allies, but more of a drag on our economy than anything..

on the other side, Russia and China...

dont think they dont intend to crash the dollar asap and become the mighty EAST again..

and dont think the US wont do everything in its power to stop that from happening....things would look very different if that happened here at home... think Russia 20 years ago...

that's the move Putin is trying to make..

the middle east is about to go crazy, things are getting interesting no doubt.

Wasn't Putin at the World Cup? The nerve of that guy showing his face in the western world.

i dunno, but that is a ballsy move.. (means fuck. you. basically in the world of politics).. i worry he's a mad man at the wheel of a massive war machine.. that he might be crazy enough to use... he's instigating, creating all kinds of havic... but he's smarter than that.. that's the scary part.

The current crop of Chinese "leaders" are doing the same thing, though. I think the odds are more likely China and Russia will be duking it out soon, and Russia will come begging the USA and Europe to help intervene just before the nukes start flying.

could totally happen too, it's unstable as hell right now.. either way it goes looks equally horrific.

Russia is like that friend that's on your side when you really need him, but he'll be the first to stab you in the back if it benefits him. I voted no, but it really depends on the situation I guess. Look at how well they treat Snowden and are protecting him from the US. Though, that could easily be for their own benefit in some way shape or form, and who knows, if the US offers them something good enough, I wonder if they'd hand him over.

china's not bad

Are we considering the US part of the "Good Guys?"

I don't consider anyone a "Good Guy" on the world stage. Everyone (Including the US) at the very least is a massive dick. Russia is more of an asshole. China is also made up of dicks.

Are they allies? Why the hell not? Alliances are made willy nilly according to whatever benefits what country at any given time.

Even during the Cold War, both sides were in a war over who could be more of an asshole to each other. There was no "good guy". To think there is means that you are a victim of US propoganda.

Russia is more predictable, they tend to act in their own interests, and seem to like poking a finger in the eye of the USA when possible.

OTOH the USA can be a lousy unpredictable ally, and a harmless enemy.
