get the 5 zigen's by quantum. they only weigh 11lbs. :D

that's what i'm gonna change my stock 19lbers to. 8*4 = 32*4 = ~130lbs reduction in body weight :D

and then change my stock 70lb seats to those 15lb bucket seats... for a total effective weight reduction of ~240lbs. not to mention that my stock hp has also been boosted by ~50hp. ;)

I agree with some of the above where +1 or +2 with the right wheel can dramatically improve the way a car looks, but that 18" rims on a Civic is quite silly.

Rice: Stock exhaust minus muffler w/5" chrome tip
Not rice: Header going into custom 2 1/2 exhaust into (some performance muffler) out 3" chrome tip.
Rice: Bright yellow Acura Integra w/red Honda emblem.
Rice: Big-ass wing on car that can only do 14-sec 1/4 mile (if that!)

I'm new to all this - could you explain how losing 8 lb/wheel equals 130 lb?
Also, wouldn't that be unsprung weight, not body weight?

yeah 8 lbs a wheel saves you 32 lbs, unless you drive with 4 spares...

losing 8lbs per wheel means that i would lose a total of 32lbs. unsprung weight translates to x4 actual body weight, so that means that i would lose an effective 130lbs of body weight. and of course losing actual sprung weight on top of that amplifies the effect.

someone correct me if i'm wrong. (garfang?)

Hey, I said I was New!! Where is Garfang or Zenmervolt?
I don't see how reducing unsprung weight translates into reducing body weight, let alone giving a multiple of ~4.

Saying things like this is like saying "100 horsepower is good for a 1 second decrease in the 1/4 mile" or "100lbs reduction is good for 1/10th second" etc...

They're only sort of accurate, on certain cars within a certain margin from being stock.

of course. the only way to truly find out the effect is to take it to the track.

Huh? So if you had a full suspension Radio Flyer wagon (we'll say 100Lbs total weight) that came stock with the same wheels then switched them out for the four lighter wheels, the "effective" weight loss (100Lbs - 130Lbs = -30Lbs) would make it float?

I thought you were going to say something more logical such as --
Having a larger, lighter rim = having a tire with less rubber = X Lbs per tire weight loss as well

Also...Rice: Plymouth Breeze with dual exhaust/dual tips. Yes, I really did see something like this the other day. At least the body was still stock though.
