Do you consider Engrish to be racist?

...at the same time I don't want to get shot or have the car vandalized. I bet people probably wouldn't even get it but still...

Engrish can be funny, but that might be going a bit far, and besides, it's not funny. For that matter, I don't much like vanity plates regardless of what they say.

Vanity plates are kool if you have a lot of money to throw away.

extra $50 per year here.

OOOHH look at me I need a ticket occhifer.

Yeah, as has been mentioned, it may be funny but you're still asking to get keyed at the least. All you gotta do is park in the wrong place at the wrong time once...

Ok, let's be clear: It's NOT a stereotype or an invented speech pattern. The VAST MAJORITY OF JAPANESE mispronounce their R's and L's in English. Why? It has something to do with the manner in which their brains process and hear the sounds. So, there are shops here on the island that have R's and L's misplaced in the names of the stores! Two examples: there's a CROTHING store up north, and there's a FROWER shop downtown. I'm serious.

The only Japanese that do not mispronounce the two are those who are fairly fluent or who may have had early experience speaking or learning English. It's very rare to find a native Japanese speaker who does not mispronounce, however. Sometimes it's fairly subtle though.

If I saw plates that said REXUS it wouldn't occur to me that it was engrish. I'd think you were calling yourself the king or something... Maybe no one'll get it until you explain it. And then it wouldn't be funny.
