do you college students sit way up at the front during lectures?

I generally can hear better if I'm sitting up towards the front, especially in the big lectures with 300 or so students. It probably doesn't hurt my chances of being recognized by the professor in the future, with all of the benefits that come along with that. 😉

I sat in the second row in a history class once. There was no one sitting in front of me and I still fell asleep.

the back is where it's at!

In the back, you usually avoid getting asked questions by the teacher, easier to fall asleep and generally closer to the exit.

First day all the way in the back to see how things are... second day i sit next to a cute girl i saw during the first day... then i sit there for the rest of the semester. tee hee. 😀

Hehe, thats what I did in Spanish class last year. Except it was by grading period. First grading period with a friend in the back, second and third with the girl in the back. 🙂 Yeah, she's nice, sorry, no pics, hehe

I always sat towards the front. Not necessarily just to hear or see better, but less distractions (people talking, playing around, etc.) in my face that way. I don't know why people bother to go to class if they don't really want to be there. And I agree with others here that the prof's will get to you know better this way, that's going to come back and reward you years later down the road when you need those letter of rec's.

😀

Most of my instructors have prepared Powerpoint lecture notes so I sit towards the back because it's easier to read the screen.

I usually sit in the middle of the room, but I think I'm gonna start sitting up near the front, as I have a tendency to people watch during class. I need to correct that. 🙂

i usually sit up front. i heard that the people who sit in front generally get better grades than those in the back.
yeah i know it isn't a hard rule, and probably not much of a trend. but its easier to listen up front. and most people don't like to sit in front anyways. you can keep your seet 🙂

Ugh, I hate powerpoint lectures with a passion. They especially suck for engineering classes because it takes a boring class and makes it even easier to fall asleep.

Middle of the room, far right side if you are facing the board/screen.

I never raise my hand and if asked a question: *shrug* "I don't know."

I do in math (which I suck at). I failed last semester because I was screwing around during finals week. At least this semester I can understand my prof (romanian accent).

Front. That way the whole class could tell who that annoying know-it-all was. And the teachers got to know my name and could write me good letters of recommendation.
Same here 🙂
Though I'm very nearsighted so I also needed to sit close to the chalkboard / whiteboard.

Usually about 1/2-->3/4 of the way back..why sit up front? If I feel like reading what the prof is writing, I'll put on my glasses, otherwise I'll just listen to what they say/fall asleep.
